MONTICELLO, Ark. (August 9) - The AMP Late Model Series rolled into Monticello Speedway in Monticello, Arkansas on Saturday night, August 9th for the Smith Towing Topless 40. 19 racers, and a stand full of fans would show up for this $200 to start, $3,000 to win 40 lap race.

Ross Camponovo, Duke Wiseant , and Ronnie Adams would all three share heat race wins, which would put Camponovo on the pole for the 40 lap feature event.

After the green flag dropped, Duke Wiseant would jump out to a early lead, but Jon Mitchell came charging through to take the lead on lap 6, and would lead through lap 10 when Wiseant passed Mitchell again. Mitchell would then take the lead back two laps later, a lead he would hold for 22 laps until 6 laps to go in the race, when a late caution would help Wiseant catch Mitchell, who had a straight-a-way lead on the field at the time.

As the field came out of the caution, Wiseant would use the high groove to get around Mitchell for the lead. Mitchell would come powering back, passing Wiseant at the flag stand as another caution would come out, putting Wiseant as the leader coming out of the caution.

As the field went green again, Wiseant was able to hold Mitchell off for the victory.

"It was a good run for us tonight." stated Wiseant following the race. "We jumped out to the early lead, and Mitchell was able to get around us, and for a while we thought he had it wrapped up because lapped traffic helped him get a good lead, but a late caution helped us catch him, and the high groove worked well enough for us to get the win tonight."

AMP Points leader Jon Mitchell also spoke about his 2nd place finish.

"I thought I about had it wrapped up." said Mitchell "I knew we was getting late into the race, and I knew I had a good lead over Duke, then we had the late caution come out when our tires had started going away, and he used the high groove really well and was able to get around me. Duke is a great racer, and I am glad to see him win it."

Ronnie Adams and Ray Moore put on a show all night with side by side action for the 3rd and 4th positions.

"There was a time I thought we was gaining on Wiseant and Mitchell." said Adams "They finally started pulling away, and we got into a rough patch of the track there in turns 3 and 4 with lapped traffic which held Ray and I both up, but all in all, it was a good race."
