Jason Shank LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (July 18) - "I'll tell you what, we really needed this one," Bear Lake, PA's Chub Frank said in victory lane after holding off numerous challenges from Union, KY's Darrell Lanigan to claim the 'Lawrenceburg All Star 30' and his first career O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series win.
ASLMS regular Coleby Frye and Frank led the field to the green flag with Chub using the high banks of the immaculate Dave Rutisell promoted Lawrenceburg Speedway to take the early lead after Frye, Frank, Lanigan and local star Jason Jamison were vitually four-wide for the lead as they barreled down the back stretch. Lanigan followed Chub into second as Frye fell into the third spot as 'The Sniper' Wayne Chinn came to a halt to bring out the events first caution.
When racing resumed 'ChubZilla' continued to lead as ASLMS regular Jared Hawkins and Tim Dohm in the Tracy Seymour owned #17T made contact in turns one and two costing both drivers a few spots dropping them from their fifth and sixth positions to the ninth and tenth spots respectively. The racing was intense on the blazing fast Lawrenceburg Speedway but was slowed on lap 13 for debris as Chub still led. That caution was followed by another quick caution as Scott James and Jason Jamison got together in turn two bringing James to a stop.
When the green flag flew again Chub still held the lead with Lanigan, Jamison, and Frye in tow. Jared Hawkins had clawed his way back up into the top five behind Frye and made his move on Coleby to move into fourth just before another caution flag flew for the spun car of Eric Wells on the front straightaway.
When the racing continued, the battle for the lead picked up as Lanigan would look under Chub on every lap in turns three and four on the bottom side of the speedway. While the battle up from became more exciting, 'Insane' Duane Chamberlain was making his way through the field from his 22nd starting position into the sixth spot. Chamberlain grabbed the fifth spot from Jason Jamison on lap 24 when Jamison slid high in turn four falling from his third position back to sixth also moving Hawkins into third and Frye to fourth. The top two of Frank and Lanigan had somewhat checked out on the field and were heading to a duel to the checkers before Rod Conley came up lame on the backstretch to bring out the final caution after losing a driveshaft on lap 27.
Lanigan made one last ditch effort to get by 'ChubZilla' for the win but Chub put his rirght rear tire on the cushion and drove to the win followed by Lanigan, Hawkins in third, Chamberlain from 22nd in fourth, and Coleby Frye fifth. Jason Jamison was sixth, Robbie Blair seventh, Matt Lux eighth, John Gill ninth, and Shawn Negangard in tenth.
