Title: Re: What was Kings results? Post by P.MARTIN SS11 on 08/27/06 at 7:13pm The track was in great shape.... Just a few minor ruts and that was it...... Harvey is no longer doing the track..... I think they brought back one of the guys from years past. So it was same ole Kings...... |
Title: Re: What was Kings results? Post by Twinhuey on 08/27/06 at 8:05pm The track was prepped by Joe. He has many years of getting this track into great shape and knows what he is doing. Joe and several others put in alot of hours to get the surface back to the condition it needs to be in. Overall a great night of racing!! |

Title: Re: What was Kings results? Post by R.Denman14 on 08/28/06 at 3:41pm Just wanted to say that after a horrible crash in his heat race, fellow Coalinga racer Gerard Filipe #14c, I'm thankful that you walked away from that one. I hear that the throttle stuck wide open going down the back straightaway, and anybody that has raced Kings knows that you hall a$$ there, he went to set the car in turn 3 and the car shoot over the turn and straight in the fence. The car ended up on its lid, with such a impact that it broke the fence pole in 2 pieces and half of his ford 9" rearend on each side of the fence. Thats right it broke the rearend in 2 pieces. Thats the info I got havent talked to Gerard yet but sure its pretty accurate. Just remember everybody pull them belts TIGHT every chance you get, before you go on the track, during cautions, whenever. |
Title: Re: What was Kings results? Post by P.MARTIN SS11 on 08/28/06 at 6:04pm I was standing in the pit bleachers when Gerard hit the wall.... It scared the hell out of me, Gerard is a close friend of mine and to be honest i thought we lost him on impact....Me and his brother-in-law Rob along with Bryan Burnes ran to him as fast as possible....Gerard was out of the car even before the car had settled on its lid....Thankfully Gerard was ok..With assistance from myself and Bryan we got him to Bryans trailer so he could sit and relax a little....I saw Gerard on sunday and he's a little sore but otherwise he's fine....I think that a big pat on the back needs to go to Kings speedway, they handled the situation very nicely. And to the chassis builders GRT, these people i believe saved Gerards life....THANK YOU GRT......This was the nastiest wreck ive ever seen....Its amazing that Gerard walked away from this... |
Title: Re: What was Kings results? Post by R.Denman14 on 08/28/06 at 9:42pm Way to go Preston........nothing else matters when you see something like that. |
Title: Re: What was Kings results? Post by racermick on 08/28/06 at 9:51pm Glad to hear you are ok Gerard, Larry. |
Title: Re: What was Kings results? Post by dARTENAY 88c on 08/28/06 at 11:36pm With chills still running up and down me ,I can second what Preston wrote !! When Gerard hit that wall I thought how we had all lost a good friend right in front of our eyes and his family ! As tears welled up he pop out of that car so fast I thought I was seeing things. I've never seen anyone hit that hard ,have the rear of the car flip-up hit the fence then roll with so much force and the next day have only a little pain !!???? Let us all remember that racing is not all that serious compared to someone's life . Metal can be re-shaped,wheels and tires replaced and scrapes painted over !!! LIFE IS TO SHORT TO LET PETTY BULLSHIT THAT HAPPEN'S ON THE RACE TRACK TO RUIN RACING FRIENDSHIPS. You may never get the chance to say , I SORRY !!!! Glad your O.K. Gerard !!! HAIL MARY FULL OF GRACE.......... |
Title: Re: What was Kings results? Post by R.Denman14 on 08/29/06 at 7:41am I saw that there is a few pictures on westernracer.com. Look closely and see that the right rear axle housing is gone. |
Title: Re: What was Kings results? Post by P.MARTIN SS11 on 08/29/06 at 6:19pm Yeah Rich it went through the fence and and was on the pits side..The car basically disentergrated on impact..... Really puts things into perspective you know...... |
Title: Re: What was Kings results? Post by dARTENAY 88c on 08/29/06 at 7:14pm Hey P. I've got the pictures of Gerard's car. darn thing is shot all to hell !!! Bent like and S , motor moved to the right by 6'', frame broke in 7 to 8 spots roll cage intact !!! Soon as I can learn how to down load it I'll share with all. |
