Title: Bako hobby nationals
Post by Chad11 on 10/03/06 at 11:04am

I just read on chowchilla's message board that Chowchilla cars can not run their track rules at the nationals. Is this true. I think the rules need to be basic to get more cars. I see no reason to not let them run.

Title: Re: Bako hobby nationals

I'm not sure. Somebody was on there complaining that they are not allowed to run their rules.

No solid cams. Scott

Title: Re: Bako hobby nationals
Post by Chad11 on 10/03/06 at 1:46pm

I didn't realize they were allowed to run solid cams.

Title: Re: Bako hobby nationals
Post by woodracin13 on 10/03/06 at 2:26pm

I think if there rules allow them to run solid cams then they should be able to run here.
They have always let us come and run are rules and we are clearly faster than they are so let them come it is an open show.

Scott I don't see a problem with it the more cars the better. That is if there rules say they can run solid cams.

Their rules do state they can run solid cams, I just checked. You are right they are not as fast as you guys. They have open rears, got to use 10 bolts or 12 bolts so that means they have to be going through the tranny. Chow does allow you guys to run there with Bako rules, seems kind of wierd there would not be reciprication.

Dave their rules do allow solid cams, they don't allow rollers.

Maybe Tom & Scott both need to look at each others rules and combine the 2.

I really don't think it is right to have to change someones car in an open show if it is something as trivial as solid or hyd cam. Your four barrel, victor jr, locked rears, beadlock certaintly trump a solid cam.  Dan

well it appears that none of the bako hobbies have a problem with chow cars running so then there shouldn't be any problem with letting them run...right??

Title: Re: Bako hobby nationals
Post by 3dshoe on 10/03/06 at 9:35pm

The drivers don"t make the rules , the tech guys do ask BAKO 8. RULE STANDS. Sorry if this is considered hate mail. Does the race on the 28th have the same one sided rules as Nats?

Title: Re: Bako hobby nationals
Post by woodracin13 on 10/03/06 at 10:50pm

Hey Mike,
I say let them run they let us run there all year if we want it doesn't even have to be one of there special races.

What do you think maybe talk to Scott and let them run.
The solid cam doesn't seem to make them that much faster.

I'm all for it and it sounds like so far there is know one else that cares.

Thats not up to me .    Back when this nat thing started it was wide open .  No alum , any c. i.  one carb.       Now they have limits .    I have mixed feelings on this one.     I think you should call Scott and I will talk to Ivan .     There  is where the dis will need to be made.     Sorry i cant be of more help!!!                                                                                                  Jimmy

Rattlesnake looks good for the Chowchilla cars, They said just bring a copy of the rules and we can run. Instead of road trip it looks like ROAD TRIP with gambling thrown in. I hope Tom is paying attention to this.  Dan

Scott, Ivan, Mike chow cars should at least be able to run their rules. If you are worried about a horspower advantage, just make sure they are unlocked. That sould make up for any advantage. Maybe make an exception for Chow cars. Any other drivers have an opinion on this?

hey jim gas is about 30-40 cents cheaper in bako than it is here and it is around 100 miles to the track from youre shop i make the trip from oceano to bako  everyday and it costs me $120 in diesel round trip but that is in a big transport truck so in youre van proablly around $100 in gas

Title: Re: Bako hobby nationals
Post by Wally_Stewart on 10/05/06 at 8:21pm

i drive 100 miles a day round trip to work, my truck gets 13mpg and it costs me about $18. 200 miles would only be around $40. If I drive my car it only cost $10 x 2 = $20 round trip to Santa Maria. Gas in Bakersfield right now is $2.339 per gallon for regular.

You guys make me laugh...Tracks closing all over the state , promotors trying to fill stands with low car counts, drivers bitching at promotors over tirvia, and now in a year end open show, we are fussing over a solid cam...WOW.  Every one should be getting together and try to unify these rules so you can go race anywhere and get good car counts..This my track ...your track thing is getting old and will eventually kill racing. I am not knocking any particular track, but come on men, let's get it together before we lose it....dr6

Title: Re: Bako hobby nationals
Post by 81LOVELESS on 10/09/06 at 4:47pm

i agree with you danny i beleive all the tracks around most of california should get together and decide on the same rules so any class can go anywhere and race not just limited to 1 or 2 tracks it kills racing with low car counts any on else have any input?

Fantasy SMS-Bako 2007 rules--------------

SMS factory stocks
1) Allow 9" non floaters.
2) Allow steering quickner.
3) New weight rule to be 3400 lbs.
4) Allow more interior "gutting" to mirror Bako rules.(Or what they are doing)
5) Torker ll w/4412 allowed '07, mandatory '08.
6) Phase in common camshaft rule in '07, mandatory '08  (common meaning either retain vac. rule or go to lift rule, but both tracks on same)
7 ) Change class name to Hobby stock.
8 ) Phase in common tire rule?
9 ) Allow offset wheels or wheel spacers. (Or have Bako remove offsets etc. from their rules)
10) 360 C.I. Max
11) Allow rear lowering blocks.

Bako Hobby Stocks
1) Raise cranking compression to 180. (Or phase in to '08 )
2) Find common camshaft rule with SMS.
3) Relax cylinder head rule. (Still oem cast iron-same rules except allow teams to change valve size)
4) Address cage setback and pedal setback issues to have common rule with SMS. (Allow pedals to be moved back)
5) Find common tire rule with SMS. Either A)  have tire rule to be max 7" non aggressive, etc, etc. And do away with track tire or B)  Find common track tire with SMS and phase in to '08. (I prefer no track tire)
6) Remove 15" tire only rule.
7) Get rid of 4 valve relief piston rule.

This would allow cars to run both tracks-
Other tracks seem to mirror Bako rules, so many tracks would be available to all..
Slap a 3 year year no rule change cap on it.

Problem is--- it'll never happen.

Title: Re: Bako hobby nationals
Post by dirtboxhero on 10/11/06 at 11:56am

i agree frazier 15 but the other problem is there is a no touch 3 year cap on the rules right now

Title: Re: Bako hobby nationals
Post by 81LOVELESS on 10/11/06 at 1:40pm

i think if enough driver got together and voiced there opinion it could possible happen

Title: Re: Bako hobby nationals
Post by dirtboxhero on 10/11/06 at 2:08pm

i see bako and chow doing it but not sms....and bako shouldnt do it until after the 3 year lock...because if they do change it before then that doesnt show consistancy....and its good to see bako stand up for the rules they put in place

Title: Re: Bako hobby nationals
Post by RCR489 on 10/11/06 at 2:44pm

I SAY LEAVE THE RULES ALONE.IT KEEPS THE COST DOWN.IF WE START ALLOWING THIS AND THAT THEN MIGHT AS WELL BY A STREET STOCK,THAT IS WHERE THIS CLASS WILL GO IF WE ALLOW THESE CHANGES.

Title: Re: Bako hobby nationals
Post by dirtboxhero on 10/11/06 at 3:16pm

THEY ARE STREET STOCKS...they have been the past couple of years....but anyways we arent talking about adding a whole bunch of rules to make them faster and better....we are talking about sitting down and creating a set of rules for all tracks in the area to use.....like sms, bako, chow, and hanford were the tracks i had in mind......thats what everyone thinks is so appealing about modifieds.....is that you can run anywhere....

Title: Re: Bako hobby nationals
Post by Frazier15 on 10/11/06 at 3:54pm

RCR489- The rules won't change anyway- were just talking.
That said- I know what your point is, and I get it. But.....

Using SMS as an example. The rules are being pushed anyway. If enforcement doesn't happen- this is what you'll get anyway. Bako has good enforcement. We could use a dose of it here in SM.
Cars at SM. There are cars that are gutted down to nothing already. I got popped for cutting a hole in my kickpanels. I welded a piece back in before the next race. I go around the pits and I see cars with no inner quarters, no rear fenderwells, no kick panels at all, etc.
You know people have snuck 9" out there already. I personally know of 3 cars i've had to race that had them.
Steering quickners- They are out there, trust me.
Reduction pulleys, illegal shocks, aluminum engine components, I could go on and on.
Dont get me started on the "Street stock" style construction on some of these cars. What about the left handed cage cars we already race against? Look past the crappy paint jobs and you can see alot of clever stuff.

The items that I listed in an earlier post won't make your car faster by themselves (except maybe the offset wheels-and most guys will shoot themselves in the foot on that deal)
This class would be alot of fun if we could travel without hassles.
That said, I also think sometimes that the factory class shouldn't progress, because the low cost keeps some cars coming back. But selfishly, I'd love to have our class more like the Bako hobby. They are an exciting, fast, class. Travel would be cool- And I want the 9". But thats just me.

It won't happen anyway so just relaxxxxxx.
