Title: mod tires Post by Andrew on 12/17/06 at 9:11am Ok, you ask for subjects to discuss? the only problem I've got this off season...how do you keep air in those darn tires.(there's your cussing too) I mean, I know the wheels are all bent to hell(more cussing), but I want them to hold their air forever!! lol, lol!! |
Title: Re: mod tires Post by bluebyu on 12/17/06 at 9:47am Tubes or Green Slime works for my lawn tractor tires. haha |
Title: Re: mod tires Post by Andrew on 12/17/06 at 10:40am Green slime, green slime, but wouldn't that make the tires heavier? OOOHHH, I get it, it's like a tractor, more weight=more traction. WOW, what a tip, it kills two birds with one stone. (is this what you were looking for Dave?) |
Title: Re: mod tires Post by DIRT27 on 12/17/06 at 10:41am Welcome to the world of real race cars with race tires and rims. I have found the IMCA tires to hold air better than any other tire we have used besides the street radials I ran in factory stocks. Some of my SS tires would be almost flat in 24 hrs. Bent wheels don't help I think the tires a on my car all have still have air in them, the left rear and right front is low but I haven't put air in them since the last race in september. |
Title: Re: mod tires Post by Andrew on 12/17/06 at 10:44am I think you missed the point, Dirt. |
Title: Re: mod tires Post by dave_lewis on 12/17/06 at 5:14pm Yessir, this is what we are looking for ! only problem with this question is there is no good answer... tubes create their own set of issues, and sealant is really messy when it comes to service...(some rules forbid any liquid in the tires) . so, ... personally i have always felt that real race tires only hold air well in service and just knew that i would have to keep inflating them during the week..kinda felt like it was a sign that we were in the big leauge.. maybe a badge of honor kind of thing ?? enough of the nostalga..so now for the tech advice, you should not store the car on the ground anyway, right? get home.. unload..wash, inspect the car and park it in the shop with all 4 wheels off the ground.. if it's not on the way to the track, or racing.. it should be on 4 jack stands.. so flat tires really should not be an issue.... as long as they hold air (nitrogen) long enough to race... dave (Dymamite Dave) thanks to Elmer ! |
Title: Re: mod tires Post by Toolbox on 12/18/06 at 2:59pm this may sound dumb, but what is a good tire pressure to start out with when scaleing a mod? |
Title: Re: mod tires Post by dirtLM on 12/18/06 at 3:07pm your exact racing pressures |
Title: Re: mod tires Post by Toolbox on 12/18/06 at 3:16pm thanks but we haven't had the car out ,just bought it.is there a neutral pressure to start with? |
Title: Re: mod tires Post by Andrew on 12/18/06 at 9:00pm When I scaled mine, we set the pressures at 12,11,10,9 for a starting point. Don't know if that's where we'll run them or not, but it's a place to start, unless someone with some experience has some better advice. |
Title: Re: mod tires Post by 3dshoe on 12/29/06 at 5:37pm The best way to keep air in the tires in the off season---------------FOUR JACK STANDS!!!!LOL |
