Title: Steet (Hobby) Stock Tires
Post by Dietzsch_Racing25 on 03/04/09 at 11:13am

It sounds like the tire I use (Kelly Charger) is being discontinued, at least in the sizes I use most.  I need to find a replacement.  The four brands that I have heard others use are:

Cooper Cobra's
Road Huggers
Uniroyal Tiger Paws
Firestone Firehawk

Anyone have opinions on the tires above?  Anyone have any other suggestions?  How much is everyone paying for a tire these days?

Bako guys use road huggers, I think they are best for dry track conditions. They seem pretty soft for a street tire. I have read on other forums that cooper cobras are good as well but they do not perform well on a dry track.

Coopers are great on a dry track with a dry track set-up. Sidewalls are a little thinner than the Huggers or Paws.

Never ran Hawks but heard they are great.

I don't think that you can go wrong with any of the tires listed.

I'd run what I could get a deal on.

road huggers are $100 in bakersfield now. the track raised the tire rule so the tire store found out and raise the tire cost $20 extra dollars this year

I think the store is just screwing them selfs because we'll just run a diffrent tire one thats cheaper and works just as good

I would assume that those are the "indy 500s".  A couple of guys at perris have used them in the past. I couldn't find any this past weekend though.

$100+ for a tire is just a little out of my budget (for a little more we might at well go to hoosiers).

Saw a couple of guys with hercules tires and got one thumbs down on them.

I have gotten mostly good reviews for the cobra's and tiger paws.

Are they the Winterforce? I have been eyeing those, Just affraid they would be considered "over agressive" which is bad wording in the rules because that is a opinion call. I am all for a spec tire again!

15" inch tires are a thing of the past, even small cars have 16" wheels on them, we might as well go to hoosiers......

Most people dont have enough bad a$$ cars in thier barn to need that many tires! Just messing with you a little. Hoosiers would fix the best tire debate but would be costly.

I agree, hoosiers would be an expensive option.  So what is the cheapest tire option.  The cheapest I have found is ~$75 (cobra's).

I don't think I'm running for points at perris so I may be up there during your season if I can "run what I brung".  It would be nice to race with 30-40 cars again.  You gonna come down to perris this year?

i think the best tire for hobby's would be the 7.5" american racer that merced runs there an awsome tire and they are like $80-$85 the last time i bought one

Curtis         When  you  come  and  race  Bakersfield.   Bring  your  home  track  rules with  you  and  they  tech your  car  to those rules..     Unless  you  are  Just  way  out  of  line  to our  rules.   Santa Maria  cars  come  over with  there quadrajunk 4 barrl carb  and  they race.        I am  sure if  you have  an injected motor in  you be  in trouble...   lol        You  will  be warned about  the  things  you need  to  fix but  be  allowed  to  race.  No racing  tires{  Hoosier, american racer, and  a 7 inch wheel }  and  you  should  be  fine.     If  you  have  any  questions  about  you  car  just  I M  me  and  I  can let  you  know if we  will  allow  it ...      Come  and  see  us ...          Jimmy
