Title: Rear end measurement?
Post by 17t_racer on 04/19/09 at 1:03pm

Stupid question here: When you order a  rear end the if the width says 58” or 60” where are they measuring to and from?
Thanks

It should be from axle flange to axle flange, measuring the width between the wheel mounting surfaces.

I did measure the wheel mounting surface and it was 63". I also measured the width of the housing and it is 58". Which one do I go with?

You want 60" wheel mounting surface (axle flange) to wheel mounting surface. I actually used 61" in mine.

60.25 1968-1979 Chevy II/Nova

62.50 1970-1981 Camaro/Firebird

i got these from another website. have always used a 60" in a camaro.

I think the racing sizing is 56 for a metric, 58 for a Nova, and 60 for a Camaro.
