Slippery slope,

I am probably one of the hardest on muslims on these threads, but I do believe it can and is done.
There are many other muslims in our military who are very patriotic and from different articles I have read, very helpful to have with the militaries language and cultural issues in the regions we're in..

Not to mention though they are Muslims living in America, it doesn't mean they and their families haven't suffered under one factions rule over another, and therefore have fled their homelands, become Americans, but their religious beliefs remain. That is supposed to be "The American Way"

It's just as easy to say all white people have a "Timothy McVay" in them.
We know we don't, but others may stereotype us.

There will always be issues when the mindset of a lot of individuals is to refer to themselves as the country of origin of their ancestors, "African American, Latin American or Mexican American, Asian American, Cuban American etc. etc.) now don't get ruffled, I just
know from people i've personally known who say they are "African American" but have never been any where near africa ? what makes them African America. Like wise for many of the others, i have friends who are 3rd and 4th generation Americans whos ancestors came from mexico, but they have never been on anything more than a weekend TJ or Encinada trip.... yet refer to themselves as Latinos.

I'm Irish as far as where my ancestors came from, but I have never referred to myself as Irish/American, Its not that I'm embarrassed I have Irish blood, I'm just a hell of a lot more proud to be an American.
At that I'm also a Christian, If you ask me which comes first God or Country my answer is God. So how the hell do I condemn a muslim for his faith.

Our forefathers were some smart sob's, if we can manage to keep religion out of politics, but without complete removal of ethics and morals, and enjoy the greatest freedom on the planet.

My point is America is the greatest country in the world, over two hundred years old and we don't need to call ourselves anything but Americans.... "America First" what would that type of mindset do for our national pride and solidarity ? what would that do for our country, economy, security, kids ??????

Well said Camaro,

There are good and bad people in every group of any religion or ideology.

Plus, some of the answers to the questions are either factually wrong or could apply to many different religions, including Christianity.

As Christmas approaches, I hope that all of us will remember the spirit of Christmas, and the good will that comes with the season.

Personally, I don't like hyphenated Americans, but thats just me.  The problem I have with our Muslim friends is not nearly vocal enough about their disdain (or lack of it) for the terrorists.  And I'm speaking of the hierarchy, not the common man on the street, they have no more power then we do, but their leaders need to speak out. Until then, I remain a little wary.

When our leaders speak out I'm always leary I mean wary.

I won't trust a muslim as far as I can throw one, because one of the fundamentals of their religion is to hate/kill the infidels. If you're not a muslim, YOU ARE an infidel. Not an ideal or a person I want to align with. For the muslim that does not believe this way I would ask, why be a muslim then? IMHO, if you're going to be (fill in the religion), why wouldn't you immerse yourself into it? Religion holds us to a higher standard, no matter which religion your talking about. I'm shooting for the standard that Jesus set for us(and falling short on a regular basis, I might add). If a muslim wants me dead for that, why should I subject myself to that. Allow me to clarify, I do not hate, nor dislike anyone based on religion. I would not, however, let a person with opposite ideals be close(spiritually, emotionally, not speaking of physical presence) to me or my family.

In short, I think a devout muslim cannot be a good american. There are too many conflicts between the two. A muslim in word only(not in practice) probably could be.

If your speaking of Government leaders, I agree, but I was speaking of our Religious leaders. The good ones are easy to find, not as easy as the bad one, but still easy.
