Title: Apple iPhone 3g from AT&T
Post by Kdawg on 02/24/10 at 12:49am

I gotta say...Even though I can't reply to LMR (read only) the iPhone I just got is worth every penny. I am seriously thinking of axing the Internet at the house for this thing. While I'm at it I'll ax the home phone.

It already hooks to the computer, if they could turn it into an antenna I'd be all over it. 99% full internet browser on a cell phone?? WTF? cell/Text/camera/email/html internet/games/iPod/...it's only 3 days old I'll figure something out for sure. $99+tax on ($500) and 2 year contract, $142 out the door. Compared it to a $300 acer notebook from walmart (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Acer-Aspire-One-10.1-Netbook/11081785)
and blew it's doors off. In fact the Acer notebook looked like Paul Bunyans cell phone next to it. The only thing the notebook had on the phone was overall screen size. My picture was brighter and better clarity, but his was bigger.

Anyway, I've always been a tech geek, but never a fanboy of "the next greatest thing" but if this is a glimpse into the future, I'd love to see the phone that beats it.

My model is not the one that comes with a video camera, but I got an app that let's me do it anyway...

PS the "no reply to LMR" might be a setting or something. I can write it all up, but I can not scroll the screen down to get to the post button.

I'm replying on my iPhone. Macs rule.  If you get rid of your Internet you can't use the wifi.  The 3g network isn't nearly as fast as the Internet. Plus you still can't view flash on the the iPhone or ipad. Macs still rule.

I also am a Mac user, but I went with the Google phone, it has all the apps, internet etc. I just don't like typing on the screen, the google phone gives you the option of the hidden keyboard or type on screen.

I love the apps, all these listed are free....

"Google sky map" point it at the stars and it tells you their names and constellations... pretty cool.

Shazam... like a song on the radio.. activate Shazam, hold it up to a speaker and it tells you what song and artist.

Metal detector.... and it works

A guitar tuner....

Barcode scanner.... scan an item at the store it tells you where else to get it and how much.

Spin the bottle..... its always nice to have a bar game handy.

The one I use the most.... Flashlight.... again it works...

I'm still not able to respond to LMR via the phone. I'm looking for updates or settings, otherwise I'm thinking the auto rotate and/or browser zoom is messing/messed up.
The auto rotate feature of the phone seems glitchy more often than not, so it leads me to the above conclusions. Still 200x better than my old T9 text phone.

I'm side stepping the apple/pc debate for the moment.

<<<<<<updated death toll. Becarefull if you consider me an acquaintance.
