So I guess sending the kids up to get a kiss on the cheek from Shamu just flew out the window. I'm surprised it took this long for a "killer" whale to maul someone. Can you imagine if it would have been a kid? I can't see why these giant animals would be bonkers living in a swimming pool. You get free fish for crying out loud.

Like a lot of criminals roaming our streets, the mammal in question already had a record of violence.

Don't be surprised that it killed someone.

Just too bad it wasn't someone from PETA.

I honestly think thats the wrong analogy (like a lot of criminals)? It's a wild animal. It has instincts we will never know about. I do fel for the family of the people who have passed from this animal, but I cannot place any blame on the whale.

I don't think you can rehabilitate a whale and it wouldn't know how to survive in the wild. What do you do with it?

How many people are going to have to get injured or killed before these Zoo's and Aquarium's figure out that these animals can "NOT" be domesticated or made into performing "pets". How about the dude that tried to live and make friends with the Bears, the gal that wanted to live with the Gorillas, the dudes in Vegas with the Tigers, and how many Elephants have we seen go crazy ?? when will they learn ???

I do not think this whale killed out of hunger or malice. There is a good possibility it happened with a "playful" attitude, but humans need to remember that Whales, Bears, and Gorillas have an altogether different way of playing and humans are WAY to frail to hang in that arena.

Then again he might just be pissed about being cooped up in a swimming pool instead of roaming the oceans like he was born to. That might make me want to "bite" someone that was riding me around the pool too.

Bottom line -- these type animals should never be in a captive environment to start with, and if they are, they should be "viewed", not played with. I feel sorry for the people that have been hurt or killed by these animals but come-on ------ riding a killer whale in captivity ??

I'm just sorry I never got a chance to actually touch one,,,Also sorry people like me are the reasons they are in a pool and not free,, NOT the whales fault,, sorry for the family but even more sorry for the whales,,,,they had no choice in being a prisoner in the pool,,
