Title: Bako cautions
Post by old fart racing 8 on 06/08/10 at 11:21am

Why don't drivers get penalized for pulling up and stopping on the track to bring out a caution when they have a flat tire?

They go to the back.......

That was the easiest answer yet. They are penalized. And everybody, everybody who has a flat would like an opportunity to get it changed without losing 2 or 3 laps.

This is something I'm working on right now to find a way of dealing with. Scott

Bakoboss, I am not sure what you can do to stop it. We all get 2 yellows and then a black flag. It seems standard practice. You can't just refuse to throw the yellow. What other alternative do you have?

Try this Scott.....if a majority of on track officials agree that said car caused a caution on purpose.....they automatically go 1 lap down to the leader. I know of almost NO condition where a car can't coast into the infield.....

I don't think it would be a good thing to put a driver a lap down things happen and your. night could be done by a nother driver getting onto you popping your tire but I do under stand keeping the show going

I had it explained to me by an official one time like this. He said it's unfortunate that they slow the show down when they stop to draw a yellow, but if we start penalizing them for doing it, they will just start spinning out on purpose when they have a flat, which will eventually get someone else collected.

About the only way I see to fix it would be to use the one and done rule, which would have the potential to end a lot of people nights early. I would at least like a chance to make it back up through the field.

I'm all for the one and done rule... you gotta at least get one chance to get back in the race

i thought one and done is that ur gone on the first one...correct me if i'm wrong...

I thought so too...  I think Turbo is thinking of you get one chance, then the next time you're done (like Bako's current 2 yellow flags= 1 black flag policy).

I'm interested to see what Scott comes up with as a solution.... blatantly parking the car to get the yellow is BS.

I've been to a few IMCA races where they used the "one and done rule". If you cause or are collected and a yellow flies, your done for that race. If it's a heat, you get to race the next event you qualify for whether it be the "C" main or whatever. If it's in the main your just done.

Whats wrong with if you leave the track for any reason (repairs, flat) your -1 lap.

Possible to un lap yourself, then get a caution

I don't think its really a big deal to allow a driver to repair a flat and work his way back to front!! Throw the yellow, give him two laps and if he does it again he's done for the night, I like how Bako does it now!!

I am 100% all-in for 1 and done for A Main Events.  This is give you more car count and better racing.  Its proven over and over again.  We all know the person that stopped right at the exit of the track to draw a yellow then hit the gas to change a flat.  I feel if its SOOOO obvious like that then yes throw him the black for " Delay of Race" type infraction.  A good driver should use more tact than what we saw on Saturday night. I feel the car count is down due to the fact that people do not want to get the cars tore up.  At the speedway in the past few years the IMCA Mod class has got quite the reputation for the destruction of cars.

tact [tękt]
n
1. a sense of what is fitting and considerate in dealing with others, so as to avoid giving offence or to win good will; discretion
2. skill or judgment in handling difficult or delicate situations; diplomacy
[from Latin tactus a touching, from tangere to touch]

Yeah it is clear now thanks for that post!!!! One and done will not give you a better car count by the way!! What Bako needs to do is let them race a little more and put the point flag in the trash for a while it is getting rediculous, the drivers can't even get close without the flag being pointed at them!! The two calls for rough driving Saturday were bad calls but that will happen from time to time!! Now back on topic, if you do the one and done then yes that stops the drivers from purposely causing a yellow but personally I like the way Bako has done it for years!!

We want to race.... if someone gets into me and cuts a tire I should be able to get it changed without going down a lap.  I will be the first to admit it... I will draw a yellow to avoid going a lap down with a flat.  Not to mention, I have tried the whole move around the top of the track and get to the exit and been nailed in the back side on the front stretch.  I'll just park it and wait for the caution.  I pay just like everyone else, I want to run the same amount of laps.  On the other hand... I do like the one and done in the mains for special events, not every night.  At Bako half of the cars would be eliminated with the one and done rule.

the one and done rule woulda been nice at sms a few weeks ago, but for weekly shows i dont feel one & done would be fair. i do feel if you stop on the track for any reason, whether it be a flat, stalled, bad restart, etc you should at the least go to the back, if not a lap down.

one & done is more for special shows like the duel in the desert @ lvms (wish i could go again)
