Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by DirtBoy31 on 06/19/10 at 11:05pm I think we would hav had a diffrent winner if brad pounds didn't feel the need to take alex stanford out cuz alex was goin for the lead. What a joke! |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by petef52 on 06/20/10 at 12:01am Hogge got A little push trying to get the lead with about 32 laps and took himself and Bryan poppa out with flats and put them both a lap down. And brad was just trying to get that $ a few cars got collected but it's the yoc and it's how it happens here. Stormy had them covered |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by DirtBoy31 on 06/20/10 at 12:05am Well from the stands view an my view, stanford was comin in a hurry to win it, stormy was fast tho, but I think alex had somethin for him |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by Mod9Fan on 06/20/10 at 12:13am Nobody had anything for Scott but yes Stanford was going to the front but I still think Scott had everyone covered with plenty. If I'm not mistaken only eight cars finished, slugfest is putting it mildly! There''ll be lots of stuff said about this race, there was plenty of sh-t going on from the drop of the green for the first heat. |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by formercrewguy on 06/20/10 at 8:18am Congrats to Stormy....... |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by specsprint on 06/20/10 at 9:52am I have seen Pounds race good before and read many times where he raced like a rookie. From my view Stanford was all the way on the bottom and Pounds basically tried putting him in the infield because he wanted the inside....um.....there was a car there. I guess when you get passed for the lead and then are gonna get passed again and put back to third he has to do whatever to ruin another drivers good race. Alot of right front flats last night....mostly from people driving in and using another car as a cushion...unfortunately for Alex it was the idiot on the outside using him as a cushion |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by aeagles on 06/20/10 at 11:13am looked like nice clean hard racing from stormy, he deserved that win. congrat.s ! robby, hope you make the trip another time. alex stanford ran a clean race also IMO , can't say much for the others, small track, hard racing. anyone have video? |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by scott_pounds on 06/20/10 at 1:47pm I don't normally get on this message board and comment, but because of the remarks that Dirt Boy 31 and Specsprint made,I feel I need to. From what I seen.. Alex was running 3rd about 6 car lengths back for 10 laps.. NOT gaining at all. The whole race was between Brad and Stormy. And with yellow flag restarts being double file, and Brad racing Stormy clean, Stormy got loose in turns 1 and 2, Brad turned down underneath him and Alex doored Brad and got him sideways.. they went down the back straightaway and Brad was still half a car lenght ahead of Alex and they both were going for the same bottom groove of the track.. Alex got the bad end of the deal because Brad just so happened to make it there first. Brad and Alex race aginst each other all the time and respect eachother. There was a lot of money on the line and it was a racing deal. So don't get on here and talk crap, if you dont know what your talking about. Thanks, Scott Pounds |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by DirtBoy31 on 06/20/10 at 2:40pm Its not talkin crap when your writing about what you saw. Its our opinion on what we think happened, not crap talking |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by arcracer on 06/20/10 at 4:00pm We were standing right there at the entrance to turn three, its just one of those deals where everyones racing hard.Brad ran a good race as did all the others who were out there. Thanks to all the racers who made the trip and put on a great show. Thanks also to John and Donna for putting on this event, and thanks to all the officals for a great show. |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by jimbob37 on 06/20/10 at 5:22pm From our view(looking down the back straightaway from the exit of 2), the 15b clearly drove the 98a into the infield. The 15b started pushing the 98a toward the infield halfway down the back stretch. It was a dumb move. "Alex got the bad end of the deal bacause Brad got there first"-LMAO....kind of like Larry Hood earlier this year when the 15b ran him up the track on the last lap. Unfortunately this wasn't the only dumb thing the 15b did this night. He darn near came close to hitting a crewmember who was working on the 66p while speeding through the pits when he came in with a flat during the heat. The crewmember was at the car and the 15b had plenty of room and didn't have to cut it that close. |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by chassisguy7 on 06/20/10 at 5:34pm The calls the officials were making on starts in the heat races were bad. They ruined some good starts and were inconsistant in what they called. The first start was probably a good call because they took off in the middle of 3 and 4, but I saw them set back guys who started at the cone and because the other driver didnt go they set the guy who did back. It was a shame because a couple of drivers got the bad end of the call and were put to the back of the pack. At least toward the end of the nite they let the guys start and it didnt effect the race outcome. |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by monte on 06/20/10 at 6:40pm Anybody have the full results from that race? Thanks |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by scott_pounds on 06/20/10 at 6:41pm This racing deal never seems to amaze me DirtBoy31& JimBob37. Your right, people have their own openions on what they say they see. For every reaction in most cases its because of how they are raced to begin with. I can tell you guys are big Alex Stanford fans but.. Brad felt that the door slam that Alex gave him, was agressive. So yes he protected his position. If Alex wouldnt have gotten into him to start with.. he never would have gotten beside Brad. So do you expect Brad to just pull over and let him by? I dont think so! if Alex would have raced Brad clean.. Brad would have raced Alex clean. In my 35 years of experiance.. thats how this racing deal goes. and for this JimBob37, whoever you are... I was standing in our pits, Brad didnt come within 20 feet of pauls pits. and yes he was trying to get into the pits to get a tire changed.. he was in a heat race and was trying to get back on the track. I would say why dont you put your name on here and we can talk about it, however i probably wouldnt knew who you are anyways. but any time you guys want to go sit down and have a cup of coffee... ill explain to you how this racing deal really works. 805-620-2683 SCOTT POUNDS |

Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by petef52 on 06/20/10 at 7:44pm Stormy brought his own car |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by danieldigital on 06/20/10 at 8:25pm I will have full results and story tomorrow. I took the day off today (and spent alot of it driving back home). Congrats to Stormy. I have seen him race several times...he is one good kid and a hell of a racer. He was a surprise entry but you got a chance to see one up and coming star (and his brother is a force too...he won 2 USMTS events last weekend). He was driving his car from New Mexico....the one he has now won 7 consecutive races in! I have a few comments but you'll have to wait till tomorrow...lol. I do have many thank you's...mainly, thank you to all those who attended. Thank you! |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by Watchin15B on 06/20/10 at 8:58pm Hey Scott this jimbob fella is always on here talking about Stanford! He is definately a Stanford fan, which is fine we all have our favorites!! I like Stanford, Hogge and some of the best from Cali as they put on good shows!! All I know is Stormy Scott won the race so he gets all bragging rights!! Now as for all of you that were saying how this race would determine who is the best in CALI, well if you look at the scoreboard at the end of the A main then it would be the 15B of Brad Pounds being the highest finisher out of the ones that some of you were asking about being the best!! Yea I know Hogge was running up front and Stanford may have passed Brad, but at the end Brad was there and you can say what you want but I will just tell you to look at the results!! There will always be some controversy in big races like this one and there will be those that get some luck and those that don't!! Now in closing I will say congrats to Stormy Scott on the win and congrats to Brad Pounds for finishing second!! |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by DirtBoy31 on 06/20/10 at 9:11pm ? So would Stanford be 10th best cuz of were he finished? |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by Watchin15B on 06/20/10 at 9:15pm No and I'm not the one that said this race would determine that, others were so I'm just saying look at the scoreboard if that's how you want to determine it!! To me Stanford is right in the mix as one of the best in Cali and he's a good person along with his father!! |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by arcracer on 06/20/10 at 9:30pm It was a great show and thanks to all the drivers who showed up.Maybe John will put something togather at Merced before the end of the year ,a round two maybe?? |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by jimbob37 on 06/20/10 at 10:28pm Wow, where do I start. Scott, my name is Jim Kishel and you're right, you don't know me. I respect the fact that you are a one time IMCA national champion, but that doesn't make your opinion right all the time. One doesn't need to assume that other people are wrong just because they don't see things as you. Maybe from your angle it didn't look like Brad wasn't that close, but from where I was(in Paul's pit) it was definately closer than 20 feet(within 10 feet). I understand the need to get back on the track, but it shouldn't be at the cost of sacrificing the safety to yourself or your competitors. As for what happened on the track, I just feel that Alex didn't have to be wrecked because of what happened in turn two. You stated yourself that Stormy got loose in turn two and Brad dove under him. And at the same time, Alex was trying to get under Brad. That contact seems to be mutual. That was just a racing deal. I have nothing against your team, these are just my observations. Watchin15b-You have no clue what you are talking about. I am not here to blow sunshine up anyones a$$, unlike some people on here. If you have read all my post this season, you would know that I have been critical of Alex just as much, if not more than I have complimented him(just ask dirtboy31). I post the way I see it, good or bad, no matter who you are. I happen to think that Hogge IV and Stone are two of the best in the state. That's just my opinion. If either one had done what Brad had done, I would have no problem responding the same way about them as I have about Brad this weekend. Happy Father's Day to the both of you, Jim Kishel P.S. Scott, I also have spent some time involved in racing, mostly with Doug George(the 1990 NASCAR southwest tour champion and current crew chief for Ron Hornaday). So, I do understand this racing thing. Though I don't like coffee, I would be willing to sit and chat some time, chocolate milk would be fine. ;D |

Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by Watchin15B on 06/20/10 at 11:52pm Hey jimbob happy fathers day to you to :D!! I actually meant to put dirtboy31 and not yourself I got a little confused!! None the less you see things your way and want to post about it so we will counter with our opinions!! |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by DirtBoy31 on 06/21/10 at 12:24am Yes, I am a very big Stanford fan. What happened saturday is in the past, hope to see Stanford an Pounds race eachother soon. |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by pushin_the_cushin on 06/21/10 at 1:57am Stormy Scott's number (in his weekly ride) is 2s. I did see the picture that Ray took of the 4x. That car is owned by J.R. Baxter of Albuquerque, N.M. That is the car Stormy ran down in Florida back in February and had some very impressive runs against some serious heavy hitters. Good to see him make the trip over to California and win. Was this a UMP points race? Stormy is currently 1st in the West Region points and 4th in the National points. (He has less starts than the 3 guys ahead of him.) I think the 2010 UMP National Champ will get a check for $20,000. Would be really cool to see Stormy win the National points. Daniel, you are right. Johhny Scott is having a great year on the USMTS tour. He will be the 2010 ROTY for that series. He's just going to get better, as right now he's running at alot of tracks he's never seen before. I remember the first time I saw Stormy and Johnny race in Cruces. They were either 11 or 12 years old and racing in the Street Stock class. They each won thier heat race and Johnny won the feature. Hard to believe they are now 20 years old. |

Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by danieldigital on 06/21/10 at 8:24am Pushin - you are correct. I forget he has his Mullins powered GRT he runs at his "local" tracks. I see him in that Baxter car and he does really well in it most of the time. He did very well in Florida in it. Kinda funny to think that he and Johnny have been racing, and winning, since they were 11 years old. And now at 20, look what they are doing. Fun to watch and if you talk to them, really down to earth people. |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by SNM Speedway on 06/21/10 at 8:34am That makes 6 wins in row for Stormy Scott. He has been just tearing it up in Las Cruces, El Paso, and Tucson this year. If anyone has full results or a story on the race can they e-mail it to me please (bryan.hulbert@m-v-t.com)?? I want to submit something to our local news paper and also to put in the News letter for the Southern New Mexico Speedway. Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by danieldigital on 06/21/10 at 11:48am Here are a few of my comments and observations: First - thanks to all who came. In the end, I thought it was a good show. Good, hard racing among the best in the state and beyond. From the contact I saw all night long, it was all part of hard racing. Yes, some cars made contact....sometimes a guy was trying to protect a line (moved up or down on someone). I don't recall seeing any dirty driving. Can't think of someone just taking a guy out. I thought it was good fought close racing, with some contact. Restarts - I don't recall any track using this style (and my first time to Antioch in 2 years). And to not give one chance at a supposed bad restart didn't make sense to me either. Automatic to rear if they called it bad. Of all the restarts they called back, only one I recall was a slight jump. I do feel bad for those who were called for a jump on good, side-by-side restarts, including Fitz. I know the fans were getting upset, not understanding why were calling so many starts back as well. Great track prep. Was racy with two fast grooves. Great crowd. Stands were full and energetic. I heard close to 1,800 people were in the stands. I hope Joe Carr is doing OK. He was transported to hospital after the hard hit in turn 1 in his heat. He waited a while after that but eventually asked to be checked out by the EMT's. Thanks Robby Sawyer for the entertainment ;) Again, congrats to Stormy. He broke a drive shaft leading his second heat and still had to run a B to get in. He worked hard and fought off some good challenges. Especially the handful of late cautions. I hope the format worked out OK for all. I thought you had the best 18 cars that night in the feature. Sure some worthy cars not in it but everybody had 3 good chances to race their way in. Luck always factors in but I tried to make it about racing, not getting a lucky draw. Any feedback or suggestions? I didn't get a chance to hand out all the contingency stuff for the heat wins. I'll make it up somehow. |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by jp80 on 06/21/10 at 12:39pm I think the format was perfect. Real fair for all and plenty of chances for everyone. |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by Mod9Fan on 06/21/10 at 4:33pm "Upon further review", now Johns gonna have to invest is some video equipment. ;D But, Fitz, I will say you had plenty of car to get the job done even from the rear after the penalty, with a little more patience. Bad call? probably. Fair? probably not. But not the only bad call made nor will it be the last bad call ever made, stuff happens. |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by HookedUp25 on 06/21/10 at 5:10pm I had a blast and being a rookie it gave me plenty of seat time to practice and be on the track with some of the West Coasts best. I learned a lot it was a great experience for me. I'm convinced that particpating in the larger shows even when your new is a good thing. That being if you use your head, hold your lines, and are able to keep pace and not get RUN OVER. Good Times, Seano#7 |

Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by danieldigital on 06/22/10 at 6:47pm This was one race. Stormy won it. Who knows about the what ifs? Hogge almost got the lead...he might have checked out on the field if he did. But it didn't happen. Brad had the lead...Stormy overtook him. Did Brad have something left for him if all the cautions did not fly? Perhaps. Stanford was charging towards the front...didn't get quite there. Chadwick was charging with about 15 to go...was he holding back till the end? McDaniel was just outside the top 5 riding most of the race till late when he got caught up in an accident battling for 4th. He might have had a charge left in him. Any one of these guys could have won it. On Saturday, Stormy prevailed. If we ran that race 5 times, I could easily see 5 different winners. Anybody got an extra $100,000 to schedule a 5 race series? ;) I believe you had the 18 best cars that night in the feature. Only 1 can win but all 18 were really strong cars. They all had to race their way in....and they did. Did this one race settle the question...Who is the best in California? No. But what I saw is that there are 8 to 10 super talented race car drivers in the Modifieds. On any given night, any one of them can win. On another night, it might be the next guy. Plus a few more just outside the top 10 can also compete on any given night and get to victory lane. I, for one, was glad to see such a highly talented field compete. It was almost like an All Star race for the top drivers on the West Coast. Kudos to all of them. It was not a one lane freight train race. There were cars side-by-side on just about every single lap. They battled and raced for it. |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by scott_pounds on 06/22/10 at 7:02pm Hemm29. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FREAKING KIDDING ME! have you watched the youtube race thats on the message board right now? This is the last time im going to comment on this RACING DEAl! The whole racing deal with Alex and Brad was just what I said.. when they were racing under green, after they made 2 or 3 laps Brad and Stormy would pull out to a 5 or 6 car length lead over Alex.. at one point it was about 10 car lengths. Because of the restart Alex drove down under Brad, they went down the back straightaway side by side, with Brad pulling back in front of him by a nose, and when they drove into turn 3 Brad went right into the middle of the track and Alex took the bottom, NOT going into the infield. and it was his choice to stay on the gas and hit Brad in the door... JUST LIKE I SAID. and turn Brad sideways. And blow out his own right front tire. Alex NEVER got spun out. Infact he just over drove the corner and slammed Brad in the door, turning Brad sideways, then stopped at the TOP of the track, with a flat tire. So tell me what you think you seen Hemm29... |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by WESTCOASTDIRT on 06/22/10 at 7:33pm Got a chance to watch the video as well, about 3times trying to get a good view and me and Scott aren't the best of friends! But what it seemed like to me was exactly the way Scott typed it. Brad went one groove up from bottom and Alex drove to the bottom, No contact was even made until Alex speed carried him up the track in the middle of 3 and 4 and into the 15B. Everyone has their view of the race but I have to say he right on what seemed to happen per the video. Video was pretty good, but buying it could show a better view being its down sized a little. Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by RoyBoy54 on 06/22/10 at 8:26pm It seems to me that the first 20 laps were dominated by the 0 car with hogge getting under him several laps, without coming close to rubbing or taking out the 0. They had a 2 or 3 car length lead on 4x & 15b when Hogge got a good run down the back stretch and they somehow ended up in the infield. Bothe drivers were awsome to watch battle for top spot, it would have been great to see the contact on the last lap. There was to much race left at the point of contact. The 4x ran a great race, he was always in contention and didn't allow himself to get taken out. This race didn't prove who's #1 ! But, now I see why people are so impressed by Alex Stanford, the heat race he won over Hogge was intense. Hogge managed to drive under and pass very fast cars all night without compromising the other cars position on the track. I really feel people should appreciate and realize this quality along with qualifying and winning big races consistantly. Hogge, Stormy, Stanford, the 0 car and even Pounds impressed me ! How about the job Newberry did, last year at Calistoga he had 2 fourths and I think he had fourth the other night with that competition there ! We need to get all top cars at Calistoga next year, where there is more room to race. |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by Mod9Fan on 06/22/10 at 9:12pm DeBenedetti did the same thing to Hogge that Pounds did to Stanford. When your gonna get passed low just shove the guy down to the bottom and let all hell break loose, then sort it out later or call it a racin' deal, I call it a crashin' deal. That race was crap, 18 of the "Best Modified Drivers in the West" and only 8 finished. The rest of them where torn up to shi. Oh, yeah, just my opinion for what that's worth, which ain't much. How's that one Pete? |

Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by Watchin15B on 06/23/10 at 4:20pm I just watched the video and I know and you know I am obviously a Brad Pounds fan, but in the video Brad did get a little loose but Alex got more loose and scooted up the track into Brad in turn 4 and caused a little pile up!! No where except maybe in turn 1 and 2 did I see Brad make contact with Alex, especially as much as you guys are saying!! That was a very good race between Scott, Pounds and even Stanford!! Good job Brad!! |
Title: Re: Antioch Speedway 6/19 updates Post by jimbob37 on 06/23/10 at 7:50pm Most of the contact(Brad got doored) was brought into discussion by Scott Pounds. First he said Brad got doored in 1&2 then he said Brad got doored in 3&4. What the angle of the video doesn't show, is Brad leaning on Alex going into 3. Scott stated that Brad chose to go in the middle and Alex chose the bottom. Alex had no other choice due to Brad leaning on him. Or should Alex hit the brakes and let the Brad go. I don't think so, in the words of Scott Pounds. We were standing at the fence(just past the exit of 2, with a clear view of 3) watching them enter 3 and it was obvious that Brad was leaning on Alex(due to the cars moving from the wall toward the infield). The result was a flat tire for Alex, the loss of Fouglar, Chadwick, Hogge, and a 2nd place finish for Brad. Scott has come on here with 3 totally different explanations on what happened. I wish Brad and Alex the best for the rest of the season. |
