Title: Trying to understand setup. Post by Ensign3 on 06/07/11 at 3:21pm Hey guys, I run a Mini Stock at SMS. Figured it was time to stop spinning my wheels. (sorry for the pun) What do you go after first when setting up a car? Spring rate? Weight distribution? Shocks? Alignment settings? I have been doing research but wanted some advise on where to start. I think if you are driving more off the RR tire, the car will be loose under power in the corner. Driving off the LR tire car will be tighter. Am I getting warm yet? Also, do you control this with the front springs pushing diagonally on the back corners. I know this may be common knowledge to a lot of you guys. Help me understand if you can. Thanks. |

Title: Re: Trying to understand setup. Post by Ensign3 on 06/13/11 at 12:06pm I bought both books last week. Mini stock Racing Technology and Building The Mustang Ministock. I don't have a Mustang, but this book still relates well. I still have a question that both books aren't crystal clear on. When setting ride height, the books say to check height at the most forward and rearward corners of the chassis. Do you want to stay in the rocker panel area or go forward and rearward of the wheels? Keep in mind that most Minis are unibody vehicles. |
Title: Re: Trying to understand setup. Post by Frazier15 on 06/13/11 at 1:34pm I check them just behind the front and just forward of the rears- You need a place to measure that is uniform/parallel front and back- Use the same place every time- maybe toss a grinder mark or something on the spot you use to measure. Hope this helps |
Title: Re: Trying to understand setup. Post by Ensign3 on 06/13/11 at 2:03pm That helps. Thanks again Mike. |
Title: Re: Trying to understand setup. Post by Ensign3 on 06/29/11 at 7:52am So, this is the order to set up your chassis. If this is wrong, feel free to correct me. 1. Set tire pressure. 2. Set the stagger. 3. Set the ride height at each corner. 4. Scale car and adjust the weight. 5. Align the front end. 6. Re-check corner weights on scales. Hope this helps some people out who don't have a lot of experience (like me) with dirt track setup. |
