Hey guys, just so you know I ran my car last year in Super Hobby class with a bone stock junk yard 350 small block with Holley 750 and headers. My compression was only 8.5:1, Hydraulic cam (220 / 230 duration@ .050) stock powerglide trans with stock torque converter and MSD ignition. Because it was my first year racing dirt I had a huge learning curve, but I could easily keep up with the cars that had the better compression heads etc... It was actually cheaper to run that setup than to find decent flowing cast iron stock manifolds and intake for a "hobby engine" The car ran on 91 octane. I have built some pretty bad ass engines, but I learned quickly on the dirt you are not at wide open throttle very much, so all the big HP numbers werent as important as the midrange torque. You can be competitive in the super class without a 1000.00 budget upgrade engine because set up and driving skill has alot more to do with the speed that is maintained and passing skills.

In the open show, I went from the back of the pack to 4th twice only running on 7 cylinders. :-?

The reason for not allowing tire stagger in the 4 bangers is simple. On occasion the 4 bangers run the track backwards without notice to the drivers until they pull onto the track. It's a safety issue and the car is supposed to be stock....stock without modification.

Concerns about rules for Antioch and Merced Speedways should be addressed as questions and not speculation. Posts here have further confused racers who have simple questions relating to the rules. It is off season, and the management of Oval Motorsports is working long hours preparing for the season. As you know, the lack of rain in California has given us opportunity to complete outdoor projects, and these projects must be given priority before the rains come. Because of this, work on the rules, internet, schedule, etc. have been delayed while the necessary outdoor tasks at hand are being completed. I forward your questions and concerns directly to John or the proper official when you email the question: mikeadaskaveg@racemerced.com

So when are you going to post the final version of the hobby rules?

Any truth to the rumor that John is thinking about paying the top five hobbies at Antioch?
