Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by CaliforniaPickle14B on 02/15/12 at 8:24pm Talked to john today he told me the rules kenny put out for 2012 is legal,no claim, transponders only might bring in raceceiver later in the year but will be mandatory next year if wanted or needed. with the kenny rules being at a possible advantage there going to be looking into trying to make it fair as best as they can maybe take off rear spoilers for sport mods, only claim that that is place is a shock and crab claim rule at both track for sport mods. entry fee is anywhere from 35 to 45 to get in this year for chow there still working on exact numbers, 20 for transponder rental like always. 2013 will be fully imca rules, 60 day trail on the race friday night ocean watson then sat night chow FREE in the same weekend if it works out they will keep it. STREETER YOUR CLASS IS STILL UP IN THE AIR IM TOLD STILL TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by TOOLCHUCKER on 02/16/12 at 12:00am No, he was not the only car. DDlod was there. I belive the pay was crossed out from 130 and 30 bucks was written in. He was disapointed. My point is that NOBODY at this level can make money even if you win but it is nice to know what you will win before they hand you your winnings. This friend is very loyal to this track and class and races on a LIMITED budget so when he wins, that 100 bucks that was taken away HURTS BAD. I dont care what the pay is (this is a hobby).....the higher the better but pay what you say! I look foward to having JP as the promoter and IMCA sanctioning. |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Cal SS All-Star Shootout on 02/16/12 at 6:32am I was told last night that there WILL be a Super Street class this year...100% WCSS Rules...for the time being the SS will run with the Crate LM till they make their own SS class...more info. coming soon...glad to see the NEW promoter wanting to work with the SS in the area unlike Merced...there is about 15 SS in that area and if things work out I bet some from Bako & SM will show up... www.calssallstar.com |

Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Bap33 on 02/16/12 at 8:41pm If anyone wants to race for big money there is already NASCAR CUP, NASCAR BUSH, NASCAR TRUCK, INDY, USAC CHAMP, WoO Sprints, WoO LM, all kinds of ELITE level paved and dirt track racing that pays big purses ... and then there is an economy based, local hobby level, limited modified that is not going to pay the winner a bunch. Make your choice. Be advised, a no-name, mid-pack, cup driver does not make enough at the pay window to pay for the race weekend. |

Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Bap33 on 02/16/12 at 9:37pm I plan to support the NSM class. I have lots of work to do and money to find before I put my new NSM license to work, but I will support in any way I can. Thank you for your kind words, but I do not think I have the right personality/temperment for an official, plus, I don't know that much. A good official is a special person that loves racing as much as any driver. That is why I never mistreat officials or talk to them disrespectfully. Besides, I aint ready to give up on climbing through the window a few more times!! lol |

Are u saying im not going to get rich in a sport mod??? what this is news to me darn well i guess i will keep racing then lol Racing take the money with the reward of a passion for speed sheet metal, and some or the greatest people around, u do it for pleasure and the rush, if you doing it for the money ur not a true racer, if you doing it for money, it more a job and a business, hell everyone every year has something to b*tch about and most the time it about pay why dont everyone stop your b*tchin, u know the pay is not all that good any how some tracks are better then others but when u bought a race car u knew what u was getting into so lets go racing and have some fun LEAVE THE B*TCHIN FOR THE WIVES OR GIRLFRIENDS OR TRADE PLACES AND U GO HOME AND DO THE DISHES AND LET YOUR WIFE OR GF DRIVE LMAO SO HOW MUCH IS PAY? LOL JK |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Gasit on 02/17/12 at 8:55am Ocean will pay $250 to win the sportmod A. Like bap said "its only a hobby mod class". I think thats fair for now. When we get over 20 cars the winnings will go up to $400 to win |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by JOHNSON MOTORSPORTS 99 on 02/17/12 at 9:08am So if ocean has more than 20 cars it will pay 400 to win? Less than 20 and it's 250 to win? Is this what it will be for sure or is this a guess at what it will be |

Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by the foot 12 on 02/17/12 at 8:21pm the pay should go up for all classes and should match the year we are racing in the pay hasnt changed since the 80,s but are cost has. tracks charge more for food,to get in the stands, pit passes, fuel for the racecar and the tow rig . if not for the cars and drivers to put on a race the promoters would not be able to pay the bills .so you have to pay the classes good to keep the cars coming and that in return keeps the fans coming as well jmo. p.s and all the classes need to be paid not just a few even the 4 banger class brings in revenue with pit passes and family and freinds in the stands |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Gasit on 02/17/12 at 8:43pm Ocean is known for always paying their drivers and they pay well in all devisions higher than hobby stock. 20 sportmods is unlikely but thats what the higher brass at ocean has said sportmods will be paid in 2012 IMCA Amods $400 to win IMCA Bmods $250 to win |

Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Racefan11 on 02/18/12 at 12:30am Forget about the money, should be asking John if he is going to hand out the same Champ rings he gave to all is champs at Watsonville in 2011..what promoter does that? I think even the 4 banger champ got one |

Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Gasit on 02/20/12 at 11:24am The info I usually post on here is 100% correct. This is the first time a track official from Ocean has given me bad info ever. I'm sorry but I thought the guy would not lie to me about this topic. I asked if he was 100% correct on the pay, he said thats what he was told. Even Superman trips on his cape sometimes.lol Sorry about the bad info. |

Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Gasit on 02/20/12 at 7:24pm John I can't give up my sorces, Iv'e gotten great info from this person in the past and am not going to loose it over a mis-understanding. Good try though. If the sportmod only gets $100- 150 to win, I can't race at Watsonville and Chow. It will cost me more than the winnings from both nights just in fuel to get to the track and back home. |

Hey just wanted to let you know its all good i wasnt trying to bash you on nothing, and ya it hard to get 100% correct info thats why i go to the horse mouth and ask him, but still things change with that, hey anyone that raced chow before that about the same pay everyone had to deal with didnt have too many 200 to win nights, the thing everyone is thinking about is if there only going to pay the ONLY top 5 i dont think alot of people like that idea, posted in the rules show it that way so who know.. |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by JOHNSON MOTORSPORTS 99 on 02/20/12 at 9:06pm i email john today about payout and was shocked at the reply i got but i guess its his track to do what he wants with it. you can not build a class on the following payout cuz no one can travel there for it and cost way to much to build a car for this pay out. so looks like this will just be another small class making the track money and giving nothing back to the racers for there support. $125 to win and only the top 5 will be paid is what he told me. bako americans and mini stocks almost pay that much and they pay ALL the way down to 22 place. |

i sent a emailed about the same deal 2 3 days ago and got same reply and he asked for my thoughts and i told him and i never got a reply, not trying to bash john or anything hes trying to do, i know hes trying his best to grow his business and its going to take alot of money to turn chow into the operation like his other speedway but it looks to me there only cutting the pay in the sport mod to only paying the the top 5, WHY only the sport mods???????? i just heard tonight being a IMCA track or Points tracks or whatever u want to call it and the MIN PAYOUT a track can pay is 125.00 to win, i dont know alot about IMCA and how they operate i just know the rules. it just going to be hard on him when last year merced speedway offered us 70 to start, merced 2012 season hasnt been talked about to much still have to check into it so we all will know. i would like to thank john for taking over chow and going to turn it into a nice track and not just letting it close and be wasted space. going to take time but should end up being a very nice track one day |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by 5ssfan on 02/20/12 at 9:30pm Chowchilla racers should be very happy to get one of the best in this business to run the track. I was told Merced is paying the same as Ocean, John I'm very happy your at Chow think you run great track in Watsonville and look forward what you can do with this track. |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Racefan11 on 02/20/12 at 11:11pm 14B you should look into what merced is paying this is not 2011..why don't you call merced and in month when Soares returns your call let us all know. We will be racing ocean can't get off work to make merced.. |

Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by JOHNSON MOTORSPORTS 99 on 02/21/12 at 12:50am i to am not putting john down but $125 and only paying top 5 is kinda a slap in the face for a medium division and a nation wide devision at that. with 18 or so races on the schedule that just seems like a lot of money in his pocket and none in the racers. its just nice to be rewarded for your acomplishments in racing not given back a couple dollars and thats it. raise the purse to $300 to win and pay the full field and make it worth it for out of town cars to travel. seems almost every track in cali is going NSM IMCA fully for 2013 so the class should only grow. pay and the cars should be there to support the pay out but thats just my opinion. make your money on beer and food not off the racers |

Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by harley83 on 02/21/12 at 9:05am all i can say about the purse is if he only pays top 5 then i highly suggest 6th thru 20th should just get there entry/gate fee back... cause we are ALL putting on the show for the fans. and should be rewarded some how. everyone shows up expecting to win. no one wants to go home empty handed if they dont even make the top 5 that is a slap in the face after they raced there heart out. heck even enough to grab a burger for you and your crew after the races is better then nothing. but dont get me wrong i completely understand only paying top 5 cause it forces us to bring out the best of who is there if you want any kind of pay you need to push it and race your butt off and make it clean and hard racing to make to the top 5. and thats what makes a show the fight for the win/top3/top5.... he wants to put on a show and we all wont that victory. just a lil FYI.... also i can not freaking wait to get back out there and rip some laps!!!! :D :o :D |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by over4t on 02/21/12 at 9:48am This pay issue isn't some new revolutionary idea. Northern Nevada tracks like Fallon, Fernley and Lovelock have paid half the field plus one forever; i.e. 20 car field 10 plus one = 11 cars paid. All classes are paid this way. I'm not crazy about it but it's the only way many tracks can keep the gates open. Makes you work harder to get a few $ but you either accept it or find another hobby. |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by AW10 on 02/21/12 at 10:05am Seems like it could bring out rough driving issues, a guys 6th and needs to be 5th,just saying. |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by sj_valley_dave on 02/21/12 at 10:10am Or simply find another track to race at!! LOL...Why follow Nevada's tracks pay policies? I'd rather have the tracks follow the pay that Idaho, Utah, Arizona, etc payout, through the field. |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by over4t on 02/21/12 at 10:18am Not as much as you might think. Nevada tracks mostly don't put up with the rough stuff. Example: At Rattlesnake in '10 my son led the ProStock main from the 2nd lap til near the end when a lapped car deliberately took him out. The guy that wrecked him got put to the back while they were lining up the restart when the officials decided it was intentional and tossed him out. He wasn't back for the rest of the season. We had the front end wiped out and couldn't restart so we didn't make a dime but neither did he. Wish the tracks in NorCal would do the same thing about the bozos. |

Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by chassisguy7 on 02/21/12 at 7:33pm 125 and only the top five is pretty weak. Scott Woodhouse paid the stock cars with ten cars 180 to 200 to win and I think last got 25. This class will pay for itself it doesnt need to add to another divisions purse. It should be at least 100% back gate payout. |

I dont think that IMCA is making this call. JMO if you want this class to grow you should put your best foot forward from the beginning. The guys at the back of the field need to be compensated too. Every class has the guys that are field fillers, when the field fillers are in hole 100% eventualy this will hurt the car count. This is JMO and i am not bad mouthing John or Ocean. I will support both tracks as much as possible with my A mod but my support would be alot less if I were racing for no money to offset my losses. |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by sj_valley_dave on 02/21/12 at 10:18pm IMCA is not telling the track to pay only the first 5!! Geez, come on...That is just ridiculous...I'm the LAST guy you will see drink the IMCA koolaid, but lets keep it real sportmod99 |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by CaliforniaPickle14B on 02/21/12 at 10:44pm JOHN is reading all what is said i know it, but what he told me in a email you all wont get a response on this board from him due to all the bashing kenny got so if your looking for answer this is not the place to get it, I race from my pocket with no helps from sponsors, only help from teammates here and there when needed. but other then that i pay for it all, if im looking at a track i only looking at starting pay, not winning cause i know my motor aint close to even what a crate motor has. i finished last place in almost every race i have ran, when i say last i mean out of every car that was still racing, so starting pay means alot to me cause i can figure my budget and know i will only be out such and such instead of out it all, if i had to race all season on just spend spend spend and never gain anything back, i can promise you i wont be racing many races might go to 1 but probably couldn't afford to go back for a month or so. on that note that would keep car count low, cause i know many racers are in the same boat with me, racing when they can and on a tight budget. JOHN need to pay full sport mod field first year and show the racer what kind of outfit he will run at chow and maybe next year if he only want to pay top 5 then fine, but for next season u will have the return of the racers that like the program more then like the payout, just a idea to throw out there in my opinion what hes got going for him is race Fridays and get in Saturdays, great deal but if pay aint there u cant drive from A then to B |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by sportmod1 on 02/22/12 at 8:16am Well here we are again Sport Mods B#&chin about pay out. I am thinking at 125. win 100 for 2nd 75 for 3rd 50 for 4th 25 for 5th thats $385.00 At $35.00 a car he needs 11 SportMods to brake even. So come Jun,July if the sportmod car count gets up to 20-25 or more and the stands are getting full then LETS START RAISING H#$L. All the BASHING doesn't help the SPORTMODS at all. There other classes that pay more money. LM, A mods, WCSS. :-? Even I can only race once a month with this kinda pay out. NOW WITH ALL DO RESPECT THIS SHOULD BE JP SAYING THIS NOT ME |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Bap33 on 02/22/12 at 5:31pm If a purse is modest, a guy might not spend all the money he can to go fast, instead he might choose to go as fast as he can without spending much money. Lets not forget fellas, as soon as the purse get high enough, you will probably be chasing the Red #2 and Pounds and Stone and Stanford. You will find yourself struggling to get your share of that monster purse. When that happens, your portion will not be any more than it is now, because your finish position will be lowered by 5 spots at least, but you will be spending more, trying to keep up, so your NET will be less .... and the cycle starts again ..... So, be careful what you wish for. It is time to accentuate the positive, elliminate the negative, and ignore Mr. Inbetween |

Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Bap33 on 02/22/12 at 6:57pm I may have wrote that wrong. My appoligies if it came out incorrectly. Let me try again. There are classes were big money can be found. If anyone wants to go race for big cash, they will be doing so against elite drivers. There is nothing holding them back from doing so. All that needs to happen is for them to take their desire, their money, and their skill, and go get some. Sammy Swindell, Kyle Bush, Mark Bloomquist, Chris Shannon, Bobby Hogge, Paul Stone, Brad Pounds .... they stand ready to accept the challenge of anyone wanting to run for the money. Go get some. Any true racer would. I hope that cleared up what I was trying to say. Stepping up one's game is an expensive undertaking at times, in my opinion. |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by sj_valley_dave on 02/22/12 at 7:05pm Not too sure about Mark Bloomquist, but I know that a Scott Bloomquist is pretty fast in a Dirt Late Model..LOL...BTW, I thought that an A Mod driver could not race a Sport Mod per IMCA rules, so how are those guys mentioned going to take anyone's money??? Just curious about that statement.. |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Bap33 on 02/22/12 at 7:44pm lol .. I was guessing with the Bloomer name. lol Anyways .... Big names travel all over the country side to chase big money in very expensive cars. Sportmods aint that. lol. I'm going to bed. |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by sj_valley_dave on 02/22/12 at 9:35pm Obviously not a Dirt Late Model fan! LOL But again, how does paying throughout the field hurt this division??? The "Big name" LOL A mod guys can not race in the Sport mods legally...We were paid down through the field in the old "Hot Stocks" 18 years ago...I just think that is an insult if they bring the cars they will not get paid throughout field...So you're thinking they are more of a hobby class than the Hobbys and American stocks @ Bako?? |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Bap33 on 02/23/12 at 12:25pm Wait, I never said not to pay down the line ... I happen to think the paying down the line is the key to full fields .. and paying the top ten in track points something amazing will keep the regular attendance up all year. But, the "to win" nonsense needs to be hushed up. To win only matters to one car on the track. But, in answer to your question about paying down the line, I do think the purse should slide back to at least the point where a guy that finished at the 50% mark breaks even (5th out of 10, 10 out of 20, 20 out of 40, ect.) I think that is a pretty good guage. Streeters ran for trophies, had one legers, 350cfm 2bbl, stock manifolds only, any DOT 8" .... we had B mains and C mains ... running for nothing but tin and grandstand donations ... 1989. The demand for a purse came after spending went insane ... so the purse eased up a bit ... and the cars became track specific .. and here we are. No, I do not think the Sportmod class is below, or above, any other local level racing class. It's just different, in my opinion. I think a guy putting a competitive 4banger on the track each week has just as much to do with racing as a guy putting a full tilit A-mod on the track. Just different ... and less expense. If a track has 40 4bangers and 8 A-mods, who do you think should make a bigger part of the purse? I'm sure we agree. So, have you ordered your IMCA license yet? |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by sj_valley_dave on 02/23/12 at 2:03pm Nope! LOL We run a Super Dirt Late Model...We just used to run Super Streets from about 1992-2006 and still have tons of friends in the SS and Mods..I really do think that Sport Mods will be better off in the long run with being full IMCA compliant...A mods are long gone...LOL |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by Perry25 on 02/23/12 at 2:21pm BAP, while agree with most of what you are saying, I think there is another factor involved with car count or lack of. I think one issue is the amount of classes. when a track has 7-8 classes you might get 80 cars in the pits but no more then 10 in any one class. When I was racing in the street stock in Antioch in the mid 80s, my first night was a "C" main, but we only had 2 classes I think. In cali we have 4-bangers, mini stocks, mini trucks, hobby stocks, american stocks, enduro, streeters (super stocks), A-mods, B mods, limited LMs, LMs, Micro sprint, mini sprint, midgets, midget lites, spec sprints, 360 winged, 410 winged, 410 non-winged and that is just for dirt! I think the sport mods are the wave of the future. But in order to improve car count, you have to control costs. I think IMCA is trying to do that. |
Title: Re: Ocean Returns To IMCA For 2012.. Post by danieldigital on 02/23/12 at 9:24pm Perry25 had made an excellent point...you really do have too many choices....and then the rules within those divisions can vary greatly from track to track. You basically have ended up with 50+ types of dirt race cars just within California. As i post this, I look at an ad on the right for Bakersfield Speedway congratulating it's 2011 Champions....7 different divisions are listed....and that's not including at least 5 other "special" divisions that are scheduled to race in 2012. How can you expect to get a full field of cars when you have so many divisions? 12 different types of dirt race cars? Is that what this has come to? Is IMCA the answer? Even they have too many divisions...but the problem is much greater. Bottom line is that it has come to a point where we have created almost enough divisions where everybody can be a winner....and that's not appealing to fans. I'd dare a track to declare 3 divisions and run them every week. Entry level, mid level and top level, doesn't really matter what...but no more than 3....I'd guess that within a couple of years, you would have huge fields in each of the 3. |

what i put in bold is what kenny shepard was going to do with his 10 race idea the sport mod were going to be the underdog to the headliner of the sprint, LM, dwarfs or what ever would show up as a traveling show. i believe he was thinking sport mod 4 bangers and hobby stocks. kenny told me he believes A mods should be a traveling show, which in North Carolina they dont have sport mods only A mods and they are a traveling series. |
