I have a street stock to race at perris auto speedway. I heard that if I put a big gear in the rear ( like a 6.00 ), I may have a problem with the car going in the corner. I know 1st gear is a 2.52 and 2nd gear is 1.52 ratio's. Should I run in drive with a 6.00 gear or 1st or 2nd? I heard that I may have a problem with the transmission not allowing car to slow down to set up going into the corner. Please help,, Thanks to everyone who reads this and inputs information..

turbo 350 is better for factory/american stock class ! Hobby/streets get a powerglide and be done with it

Thank you. I am trying to use wht I already have. I will start looking for a powerglide, but I would still like a back up plan as we know in racing.... trannys go bad...

its somethin to do with rotating weight inside the t350 compared to powerglide

IMO the turbo 350 may not be the best choice for SS at Perris but it should work fine. It is heavier and has more rotating mass than a powerglide but I think the 350 is more durable.

Running in high gear (3rd or drive) is supposed to be best (it robs less power, how much? I don't know). I think the 6.0 gear you talk about might be a little low. I think most of the guys out there are running between a 6.22 and 6.50. If you go this route make sure your drive shaft is balanced. It will be turning at the same speed as the motor.

The other options are to run in 2nd gear with a 4.11 or 4.22 rear gear which will give you a 6.25 and 6.41 final, respectively. Or run in 1st gear with 2.50 which will give you a 6.30 final.

The numerically lower rear gears are supposed to be more durable because there is more tooth engagement between the ring and pinion but plenty of guys are running the numerically higher gears with out any problems.

If you run in high gear, if/when you decide to switch from the turbo to the glide you wont have to change your rear gear. If you run in 1st or 2nd and decide to change to the powerglide, you'll have to change the rear gear as well.

I ran a turbo 350 years ago at bako and ventura without any problems but I have been running a powerglide in first gear at Perris.

Ok... first off whether you use the powerglide or the th350, your going to want to be running it in drive. Thats where your going to get the best response and performance. running in first or second is going to put more stress on it.

Secondly, guys at perris are running anywhere between a 6.20 and 6.50 final drive number with a lot of guys being in the 6.33 range. with a 6.0 your not going to have enough out of the hole and guys will pull away coming off of the corner.

Thank you guys for the advice. I think the 6.33 and what I have now seems like it will get me by for a short time.. I will be looking for a glide soon, but right now i just want to get the car to the track and do some laps and work out the bugs. Again,, Thank you everyone..

I am building a new one. my car is a 67 chevelle. plan on running part time and get ready for next year. This car has never raced. I bought it from a guy who started building it, then ran out of money. So now I am trying to finish it.

Yeah, Right now I am on a tight budget. I just want to finish car and maybe over the winter get a powerglide.

Save your money do it right the first time and be done with it. Make friends with the fast guys help them out scraping mud or whatever and learn then you know what to do with your ride
