Title: Antioch Speedway - 4/26 Results Post by LMR on 04/26/14 at 10:43pm Antioch Speedway April 26, 2014 _______________________________________ Foulger sees Hogge Streak End; Decker undefeated in Late Models at Antioch ![]() Oval Motorsports ANTIOCH, Calif. (April 26) - Jeff Decker of Morgan Hill made a thrilling backstretch pass under Chico’s Duane Cleveland to remain undefeated in the Northern All Star Late Model Stock Car feature event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. Track champ Troy Foulger of Martinez cruised to victory in the modified stock car main event after favorite Bobby Hogge IV of Salinas suffered mechanical failure while leading with three laps to go. Decker executed the daring pass coming out of the second turn. He dove low under Cleveland, riding the inside berm of the rain-narrowed backstretch. “It was the only shot I had to get by him (Cleveland),” Decker said in victory lane. “The track was affected by the rains and the drivers couldn’t hold a line through the turns. I found my car was good on the bottom, so my only chance to pass was on the inside.” Cleveland congratulated Decker on the pass in victory lane. He was pleased his car performed well with an engine borrowed from one of his modified stock cars. At the finish line, Richard Papenhausen and David Newquist followed Cleveland to make it three Chico drivers in a row. Vacaville’s Paul Guglielmoni was fifth. Foulger Hoped to Catch Hogge IV Driving the Billy Bowers car from Oakley, Foulger saw Hogge IV’s undefeated streak in Northern All Star competition abruptly end before his eyes. With three laps to go, Hogge IV suddenly slowed in the second turn, allowing challenger Foulger to pass into first place. “I was trying to keep it going for another three laps,” said a frustrated Hogge. “The pull bar mount (on the car’s chassis) broke and I just couldn’t keep going.” Foulger loved every minute of the race before Hogge IV dropped out, leaving him disappointed in victory lane. “We were having a good time out there. I wish he hadn't broken down,” Foulger said. “That is not the way I wanted to win.” Antioch’s Chester Kniss, a perennial local favorite, had his best run of the season, and gave Foulger a side-by-side run for the checkered flag. “I tried real hard to pass him,” a smiling Kniss said in victory lane. “I finally got my car to work right. Now, I’m excited for the next race.” Vacaville’s Danny Dozier trailed the leaders closely in third, ready to take the lead if they bobbled. Antioch drivers Dan Gonderman and John MacDougall completed the top five. ![]() Macedo Tops in Wingless Sprint Cars Billy Macedo of Concord scored his second Northern All Star Wingless Sprint Car main event win of the season. Driving the new car he built over the last year, Macedo took an early lead, with Rowdy McLenon of Anderson chasing the distance in the non-stop main event. “My car had no trouble handling the track,” Macedo said in victory lane. “We set it up pretty darn good, I would say. It paid off.” Scott Hall of Sacramento finished third, fighting off the challenges of Bob Newberry of Oakley. Antioch’s Rick Panfilli brought home fifth. First Win of the Season For Baldwin Oakley’s Nick Baldwin was last season’s Rookie of the Year in the Hobby Stock division. He’s been in the hunt for a feature win this season, and captured it Saturday night. “Billy Bowers said my luck would change if I changed my parking spot in the pits,” Baldwin said in victory lane. “He was right. It worked.” While Baldwin had good fortune, Dan Jones of Castro Valley did not. Jones charged to the lead, topping favorites Patti Ryland of Brentwood and Kimo Oreta of Vacaville. Ryland’s car suffered mechanical failure, while Oreta dueled to the finish with Baldwin. With smoke pouring from Oreta’s red-hot car in victory lane, the track crew scrambled to deploy fire extinguishers. “It got just a little too hot,” Oreta said about his car and the race. “I thought I had a little extra to give Nick (Baldwin), but my car didn’t think so.” Gonzalez Almost Gave Away Second As Chris Corder of Modesto ran out of gas, his car sputtered through the turns on the white flag lap of the four cylinder “Four Banger” main event. His commanding lead dwindled as competitors loomed to overtake him. Gaining ground on Corder was Carlos Gonzalez of Bethel Island and Brent Curran of Antioch. The two were side by side when Gonzalez inexplicably lost speed. “I looked at the flag and thought it was over,” Gonzalez said. “I made a mistake. Then I realized it was the white flag and not the checkered flag.” Gonzalez challenged Curran a half-lap later, and regained his second place at the finish line. Action continues Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) Modified Stock Cars and Sport Mods will be featured. In addition, there will be a complete program of qualifying races and a feature event for the Limited Late Model, Hobby Stock and Dwarf Car divisions. .
