SPRINT CARS RETURN TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY

PERRIS, CA (August 12) - It will be a huge night of sprint car racing when Perris Auto Speedway hosts the “California Racer’s Hall of Fame Night” featuring the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, PAS Senior Sprints, PAS Young Gun Sprints and the California Lightning Sprint Cars this Saturday, August 16th .  In addition, several of the sport’s biggest stars from days gone by will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs before the races.  Also before the races, the track will honor National Sprint Car Hall of Fame mechanic Bruce Bromme Jr. who passed away in his sleep last week.  Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00.

In addition to the normal purse for the USAC/CRA drivers, nearly $4,000.00 extra has been added.  Saturday’s fastest qualifier will pick up an additional $500.00 and there is nearly $3,500.00 added to the main event purse in lap money.

Concord’s Damion Gardner, who was at Bonneville last weekend trying to go 200-MPH before the event got rained out, comes into Saturday’s race as the series point leader.  The defending and two-time series champion leads 5-time series champ Mike Spencer of Temecula and Huntington Beach’s Nic Faas, who are tied for second, by 111-points.  Of the first six races staged at The PAS this year, Gardner has won four of them while Spencer and Faas are still looking for their first win at the famous half-mile clay oval in 2014.  Other winners at The PAS this year are Yorba Linda’s Matt Mitchell and Richard Vander Weerd of Visalia.

Spencer will have some extra incentive to win on Saturday as Bromme, who is regarded by many as one of the greatest mechanics in the history of the sport, was his long standing crew chief.  Bromme will be saluted with an emotional memorial lap before the races.  National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Jimmy Oskie will be behind the wheel of a Bromme wrenched car driven by Bromme’s lifelong and late friend Dean Thompson in the 1980’s.

In the track sports bar before the race, CRA legends Rick Goudy, Eddie Wirth, Don Thomas Sr., Mike Sweeney, Stan Atherton, John Redican, Dennis Rea and Steve Howard will be on hand and to sign autographs and meet the fans.  Several other past stars are expected to participate as well.

USAC/CRA Point Standings
1. Damion Gardner - Concord - 714
2. Mike Spencer = Temecula - 603
3, Nic Faas - Huntington Beach - 603
