PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY HOSTS “360 OVAL NATIONALS” ON THURSDAY

PHOENIX, AZ – NOVEMBER 4, 2014... On Thursday, November 6th, Don Kazarian’s Perris Auto Speedway will host the “2nd Annual 360 Oval Nationals.” Opening the prestigious “19th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals, presented by All Coast Construction,” the USAC West Coast and USAC SouthWest Sprint Cars will battle for $2,500-to-win and $300-to-start. Sponsored by the Hose Advantage Store and Hoosier Tire, 40 cars have pre-entered the final round of the “Grudge Series.” The spectator gates at the "America's Premier Dirt Track" will open at 4:00pm, Time Trials at 6:15pm, and racing will start at 7:00pm. NOTICE TO RACERS: Thursday’s race at Perris will be run under the USAC West Coast & SouthWest Rule Books. A $75 late entry fee will be collected and the Hoosier 105/16 Medium is the ONLY legal right rear tire and all four corners must be Hoosier. Cockpit adjustable shocks are NOT allowed and engine restrictor rules are 1-7/8” with open heads and 2-3/16” with ASCS cylinder heads. The weight rule is 1,475 lbs. with driver. Perris Auto Speedway has 95db at 100 feet state mandated sound rule and the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Rule Book can be found online at www.westcoastsprintcars.com and www.usacracing.com.

The annual event at the Lake Perris Fairgrounds in Perris, California has become one of the most anticipated races on the schedule. Last season, five-time USAC/CRA Champion Mike Spencer won the 30-lap feature in Mark Priestley’s #7 Maxim and claimed the “Grudge Series” title. “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. set the 1-lap track record of 16.739 over thirty-five entries behind the wheel of the Massey Motorsports #50 RSS. A pre-entry list for the “360 Oval Nationals” is posted at the end of this release and more drivers are expected.

After rain washed out the September 27th “Brawl For It All” at Canyon Speedway Park, Austin Liggett of Tracy, California sits atop the “Grudge Series” point chase. Piloting the family owned #83 Excel Environmental Services / Home Connections Inc. Spike, Liggett won the Las Vegas “Sin City Showdown” on March 6th over J.J. Yeley, Mike Spencer, Nic Faas, and Josh Pelkey.

Heading to the final USAC West Coast point race, Matt Mitchell of Orange, California has a slim 28-point lead over Rauma, Finland’s Markus Niemela. Racing his #37 Campbell Bros. Storage / Pit Boss Jacks Maxim, Mitchell claimed his first series win at Watsonville’s Ocean Speedway on August 8th.
Leading the points for most of the year, Niemela took the #73 Berry Pack / King Racing Products Spike to a season best second place run at Watsonville on May 16th. Richard Vander Weerd, Jace Vander Weerd, Ryan Bernal, “Hollywood” Danny Faria Jr., Troy Rutherford, Austin Liggett, Nic Faas, and Dennis Howell round out the top-10 in the standings.

While the event is a non-point race for the USAC SouthWest Sprints, R.J. Johnson of Phoenix will lead a strong Arizona contingent. Fresh of his eleventh win of the season at Queen Creek, the pilot of Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman has a solid 110-point advantage. Josh Pelkey, “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr., Matt Rossi, “The Magic Man” Mike Martin, Shon Deskins, “The Kid” Tye Mihocko, Michael Curtis, Nick Aiuto, and Andy Reinbold follow Johnson in the championship points.

In addition, drivers from the USAC National Sprint and Midget series are entered in this prestigious race. Indiana’s Dave Darland, Bryan Clauson, Jon Stanbrough, Robert Ballou, and C.J. Leary will tackle the half-mile oval along with Oklahoma’s Christopher Bell. Kevin Thomas Jr. of Cullman, Alabama will return to Perris at the helm of a Keith Ford entry.
