Title: First Night of Destruction this Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway Post by SNR on 03/25/15 at 6:42pm FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 25, 2015 _______________________________________ First Night of Destruction this Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway PAS/Scott Daloisio PERRIS, CA. (March 23) - Let the mayhem begin! This Saturday night, March 28th, Perris Auto Speedway will host Night of Destruction #1 featuring crazy Figure 8 Racing, a Figure 8 Trailer Race, Democross and Spectator Races. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 pm for the night of motorized madness and the first crash will take place at 7:00. Just after 5:00, fans will have about an hour to go onto the track to view the cars, take photos and get autographs of all of the drivers. Saturday’s show will be the first of an expanded schedule of Nights of Destruction in 2015 at the famous Riverside County racing facility. Since the track first hosted the spectacle five years ago, the Nights of Destruction have become fan favorites and the biggest drawing regular events in the first 19-years of the tracks existence. When the track started hosting Nights of Destruction, it started with one night. It has been growing ever since and this season there will be a record setting five dates. The other dates for the year are April 25, June 6, July 25 and September 6. “When we hosted the first Night of Destruction, we had a nice crowd in the stands, but we only had about 10 or 12 cars total show up to compete,” Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian laughed. “I thought we were in real trouble with those few cars to run all three events. To my surprise the crowd loved it and it has done nothing, but grow since that first event. The crowds keep getting bigger and so does the field of competitors. I am expecting record numbers on Saturday night in the stands and on the track,” Two separate track layouts will be used for Saturday night’s automotive chaos. The Figure 8 races and the Figure 8 Trailer race will be run on a temporary track set up in what is normally the middle of the infield pit area for all sprint car and PASSCAR Stock Car races. The Democross and Spectator races will be run on the track’s inner quarter-mile. Figure 8 racing goes back to the days of Ascot Park and the Corona Raceway and is run in the same fashion with daredevil drivers trying to pinpoint their timing perfectly to avoid a disaster at the intersection where cars going in opposite directions frequently come together in spectacular fashion. The Figure 8 Trailer race is much like the regular Figure 8 race except that all cars must be pulling a trailer and the trailer must be attached for them to finish the race. “All we require for the trailer race is for the drivers to show up with a trailer attached to the back of their cars,” Kazarian said. “Most of these drivers add something to the trailer. Some of them pull boats on their trailers, we have had a catamaran, out house, Jacuzzi, jet skis, a rocking horse, several couches and more. I have no idea where they come up with that stuff and I am afraid to ask, but the fans absolutely love it.” Democross is an oval track race with virtually no rules. Obstacles like boats, tractor tires and jet skis are placed on the track to add to the difficulty of securing a win. If you want to take out the car next to you or the leader as he laps you, no problem. It is legal. It usually has the crowd up on its feet and hollering for all of the 20-lap main event. Spectator racing matches two drivers in their street cars on the track at a time. One starts in the middle of the back straight and one starts on the middle of the front straight (so they do not have to worry about crashing into each) and the first one to complete two laps wins. The winner of each two-lap race moves on in the competition until there are only two cars left for the final. The purse for the Spectator Race is 50% of the entry fees taken in for the event and the winner receives 100% of that and a beautiful trophy. However, the winner is not done yet. He or she then takes on one of the tracks resident spectator race champion “Wide Open Wayne” Williams for an extra bonus.
