Perris Auto Speedway IMCA Modified Championship to be decided this Saturday

PAS Media
PERRIS, CA (August 25) - The first 2015 Perris Auto Speedway track championship will be decided this Saturday, August 29th, in the IMCA Modified class.  In addition to the modifieds competing at the late August race, the PASSCAR Street Stocks, Super Stocks and American Factory will also be in action on the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval.  Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and racing will begin at 7:00.

Mathematically, the top 10 drivers in the standings all have a shot at winning the crown.  Realistically, it would be a stretch to figure anyone out of the top three would get the job.  Kevin Hocking of Huntington Beach, David Clark of Riverside and David Lord of Hemet occupy those three spots.  Hocking leads the standings with 144-points.  Clark is 5-points behind at 139 and Lord trails by 9-markers at 135.

The winner of the IMCA main event collects 40-points.  Each subsequent position drops by a single point all the way down to the 24th place driver who gets 17-points (if more than 24 cars start the main, any car finishing 25th on back gets 17-points).  Thus, just by taking the Kevin Winters’ green flag to start the main event on Saturday, Hocking will eliminate four of the drivers mathematically in contention for the title.

Ironically, of the top 10 in the standings, only Lord has won at The PAS in the first four IMCA Modified races this year.  The other main events have been won by past PAS Modified champ Billy Griffin of Buena Park, Lomita’s Mike Kirby and Jimmy Reeves of Hanford.

While the IMCA Modifieds will be deciding their title on Saturday, the PASSCAR Super Stocks, Street Stocks and American Factory Stocks will not decide their champions until November.  Two of the top point getters in their respective classes have had some off track excitement since the last race.  Two-time track champ and current Street Stock point leader Luke Dodd of Riverside had his appendix removed and El Cajon’s Todd Fassler, who is second behind Tom Gillum of Riverside in the American Factory Stocks, was bitten by a rattle snake on July 4th.  Both racers are recovered and ready for action this Saturday.   The other point leader at the track is Dennis Wooldridge.  A veteran of nearly 40-years of racing on the Southern California bull ring ovals, the Riverside resident has a narrow 4-point advantage over Ricky Lee of Cherry Valley in the Super Stocks.  Wooldridge was the 2013 PAS Super Stock champion.

Adult tickets are $15.00.  For active military with proper id, teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 it is just $5.00.  Children 5 and under are admitted free.
