Title: McDaniel, Braaten, Borror Win Siskiyou Speedway Season Opener Post by C.W. on 04/17/18 at 9:52pm Yreka, California... April 14...Several drivers from outside the area came to compete for the $750 to win prize money offered for the IMCA Modifieds Saturday night at Siskiyou Motor Speedway. When the checkered flag flew on the 20 lap Main Event, it was Ryan McDaniel picking up the win. McDaniel had a front-row start and raced into the lead immediately with past Cottage Grove champion John Campos in pursuit. Try as he might, Campos was unable to make the move around McDaniel, who was the happy winner. Cottage Grove champion Grey Fernando finished third, followed by Kevin Roberts, two-time champion Albert Gill, Bricen James, Matt Murphy, James Welshonse, Bo Shields and Rob Robles. McDaniel won the four lap Trophy Dash, and eight lap heat races were won by Campos and McDaniel. Jorddon Braaten won a thrilling 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. From the fourth row, Braaten struck quickly to third behind Justin McCreadie and Trophy Dash winner Rich McCoy. Braaten made an impressive move to gain the lead by the halfway point of the race before a yellow flag waved. McCoy surprised him by gaining lead on the restart, but Braaten didn't give up despite nearly driving off the track in Turn 4. Working Turn 4 as they were about ready to complete the 18th lap, Braaten slipped underneath McCoy and beat him to the line. McCreadie also got by for second before one final yellow flag slowed the pace. Braaten led the restart and the final two circuits to score a well earned victory ahead of McCreadie, McCoy, Doug Franklin, Ryder Boswell, Trevor Tiffee, Braxton Possinger, Justin Foux, Jimmy Lipke and Matt Sanders. McCreadie, Braaten and Foux won eight lap heat races, and McCoy won the four lap Trophy Dash. The Outlaw Pro Stock Association figures to have a good battle this season as 2016 champion Steve Borror and 2017 champion Scott Lenz are both in the field. After the two drivers won their eight lap heat races, Lenz won the four lap Trophy Dash. Unfortunately for Lenz, he was eliminated in a crash halfway through the 20 lap Main Event. Borror won the race in dominant fashion by over half a lap ahead of Scott Flowers. Jeff Haudenshild outran Bryan Hammond for third as Matt Harlow, Lenz, Ginny Flowers, Rick Lukens and James Flowers completed the finishing order. David Steele swept his eight lap heat race, the four lap Trophy Dash and 20 lap Main Event in the McDonald's Mini Stocks. The 2015 champion ran smooth down the stretch and won ahead of 2015 Medford champion David Marble, Terry Kendrick, Mike Frost, Mike Whitaker, Dennis Jorgensen, Garrett Frederickson, Marilyn Yawnick and Derek Alford. Yawnick won her heat race. Camden Robustelli won the 20 lap Southern Oregon Dwarf Car Main Event. Robustelli only finished a few car lengths ahead of two-time champion Josh King. Jake Van Ortwick held off Shane Youngren in a good battle for third as Kalvin Morton, Ryan Smith, Cody Peters, Mason Lewman, Glen Hester and Brock Peters rounded out the Top 10. B. Peters won both his eight lap heat race and the six lap A Dash. Lewman and Van Ortwick were the other heat race winners, and King was the B Dash winner. Racing returns next Saturday with a canned food drive. You will receive $2 off your front gate admission with a canned food donation. The Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars will be back in action along with the McDonald's Mini Stocks and IMCA Sport Modifieds. On Friday night, the Outlaw Kart program begins on the smaller track.
