Go Cart Racing
08/16/06 at 10:18pm

Hey

How many people would be interested in go cart racing.  I am talking about real racing with real go carts.  What would the interest be if we opened a track and started promoting go carts on Friday nights or Sunday afternoons?  This is just food for thought, if I can get enough interest, I might be able to work something out.  A friend of mine owns the bakersfield cart track out by hart park and if I can get enough interest I might approach him about opening it back up and promoting some good cart racing.  You can shoot me an email or just post a response.

They have this one (www.p1kartcircuit.com) here in Tucson.  It's a blast.  I've been out a few times on the regular rentals.  They go about 45 (per GPS).  If you go to http://www.outsidepole.net/forum/ and scroll down to the P1 Kart Circuit Forum, you can see some cool videos.

Troy,

Where are you talking about doing gocart racing and what type of gocart racing are you talking about?

I know there IS already gocart racing in many cities, for instance Santa Maria has a really cool track, and I'm pretty sure Bakersfield has a track too.

These are ROAD COURSE tracks.  I know some guys who use to do DIRT OVAL karting too over in the Central Valley someplace (Maybe Fresno area?)

I have a friend that owns the old bakersfield cart club out by hart park.  it is road course style racing.  i know several years ago it was pretty big.  it would be professional style racing for kids or adults.  i would not be providing the carts, it would be something you would have to provide like any other race car.  i would work to make this as big as possible.  i would need some help however, i figure it would be a few years before this would be completly self sufficient.

This is still just a thought, if I can get the support I will approach the owner of the track.

The place is pretty run down so I would need help getting it back in order, painting, lawn care, general repairs.  Just the stuff that makes the place work.  If you can think of it we would need it.  Officials, scoreers, flag man, tech, gate workers, concession employees, everything!!  I would like to come up with a plan of action and present it to the track owner.  My thinking is, let us use the track for a year or two to get established and then start renting it from him.  i dont have any money to invest so this would be a joint effort on everybodies part.

I know the bakersfield kart club moved to button willow a few years ago.  Why did that kart club leave the facility you talk about?  Another BIG thing you need to think about is Insurance.  I believe it's not cheap.  I think a dirt oval kart track would be a better starting place.  I've been waiting years for a dirt kart track in the santa maria area but nothing has came to frutition.

I believe kart count and interest at a Dirt Track would far out weigh a road course.

I believe Kings speedway may still have an 1/8 th mile out
back by the Pits, contact Frank Diaz. Also Tulare used to run
a 1/10th dirt track behind the big track.
SMS tried to run dirt Karts many years ago in turn four ,but not enough interest.

Tulare still has their track behind the big oval, but Kings pulled out the kart track and expanded the pit area into what used to be the kart track.

I think taft has a dirt oval that many people run during the off season. Its on the east side of the 119.

The only reason I was considering this is because the track is just setting their.  If we were to start a dirt track, I would have to start it from the ground up and I dont have the resouces for that.  I would need land, buildings and the list would go on and on.  If someone has a chunk of property that they would like to lease out or lend out for several years while this get up and running I am sure we as a community of racers could make it work.

We did a trial race during intermission last year with dirt karts and it was cool. Get the karts together again and I'll give you dates. My kid wants to do it also, were do I find a dirt kart for him? Scott

For Dirt oval kart racing the track needs to have minimal banking, a couple degrees banking.  also check out "www.qrckarts.com".  A 500cc kart in my opinion would be bad ass fun.

Here ya go these things are bad ass:

http://qrc-allstars.com/2004video/5-28-04-openlap.wmv

http://qrc-allstars.com/2004video/5-28-04larsontolead.wmv

http://www.kylelarsonracing.com/video/knoxville2004-1.wmv

(the last video highlites a kid named Kyle Larson who is the next real deal racer. he has won it all in outlaw karts and now this year started racing midgets in Arizona at Manzy. Oh yeah he just turned 14.)

These outlaw karts are pretty low cost but they FLY even Gray Jacob liked them a bunch and was always covering the indoor series races in the winter.
