Paris (PAS) was selling their pit spots for about 200 buck each and those jokers were standing in line to by them, they did about 10 grand that night, we haven't be back sense. SMS did it for a while, 10 bucks a spot for the year, and that petered out after a while and folks just went to there usual spots . Not sure how they do it now. Its OK as long as on special shows its still first come first served. (opens and the like) JMO Duane

I hate the idea. You want a good pit area then get there early.

The only problem with getting to Kings early is the heat. Standing out on the asphalt for an hour is a killer, plus the women taking the money never are in any hurry. Ive been racing there for a while and ive seen 40-50 people waiting out there and they still wont come out to open early... Im all for paying for spots.... Helps the racer and it will help the track....

Wasn't excited at all about the $$$ for a pit spot at Perris, but we are running 16 shows there this season and it has been nice to get to the track about 3 and no line to get in. Past years it has been get there at about 1 or 2 with a line to the pavement at times. It gives me a chance to do a couple things around the house or get a couple things done before racing. AGAIN I Don't like the $200.00 for the year but the pit space open till 4 is good for my family on race day.

I have to second that we bought a spot at Ocean this year and theres NO rush to get there and save spots for your buddies. They put out numbered cones that way they can alter things when they need to.

Its still 200 clams the racer has to come up with, parent of the year or not and if Chet and I were still funding our own fun I could all most assure that it wouldn't happen. Two hundred bucks to some of us is still afair amount of money. It's no different then the 40 and 45 dollar pit passes, that ain't where the promoter is supposed to be makeing his money, we put the show on and pay for it. How much do you suppose Bret Favre
pays for enter in each football game? I'm not against buying the pass but it's coming to the point of rediculas(sp)As far as the parent of the year thing, I'd like as would Chet, to be able to include my grandsons in the pits when there old enough but not at these prices and
I doubt that there going to go down any time soon.
As always, JMO Duane

Agreed Duane that it is not for everyone, but the promoter and the racer that sees and can afford the benefit should be free to do it without ridicule, not that you are ridiculing anyone. That said this sport has never gotten cheaper since you started racing.................right?
BTW I went to highschool with a 13 year vetran with Brett and the Pack and you would be surprised how many tickets they pay for for their "crew" to attend the event.

I'd park in the weeds before I'd pay 200 just on principle. Over the years, the prices have inched up here and there and the tracks keep doing it thinking no one will notice. Guess what, after 5-10 years of this EVERYONE notices! When my grandpa ran Bakersfield Speedway, he'd give the drivers a coupon for their families to get something to eat up in the stands. Today they just sell 4 dollar cokes.
I could have puked when they made me PAY to pull a pill at Perris. I thought it was a joke for a race that paid 500 to win. Then I had to buy thier membership which was 100ish give or take for one race. I paid 400-500 to run there that night. Obviously I like running there but I just can't afford to. So in reality their short term gain equalled long term loss. I'm not saying Hanford is trying to screw their racers, it's just all the tracks are trying to make up for the lack of promoting by nailing the back gate. It has long term failiar written all over it. Tracks need to hustle sponsors, hire some "PROFESSIONAL" sells people "IN SUITS" to work like a professional business would do. Come up with new ideas. I'm getting sick of the normal routine. Jack the back gate up and but a truck load on the nose and nosedive the rest. It's an old techniqe that's transparent and dated. To think this technique will work after its failed time and time again is wacko.

Chets head was waggin pretty good to after our first Paris race and he said about the same thing at the pill draw too. It's relitively obvious which tracks want you there and which could care less, Paris could care less.
We're going to race down there cause there isn't any where else to go and that is about the only reason. JMO Duane

Billy my sales in July of this year compared to last year equaled NO GROWTH, but just might GAS bill alone was 5000.00 more than last year.
My point is ALL COSTS EVERYWHERE are going to go NORTH, THIS THREAD IS A WIN - WIN FOR ALL. Even for the guy who wont buy a spot.
Your point about old and outdated and whacko reminds me of the definition for INSANITY........ DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER BUT EXPECTING A DIFFERENT RESULT.
Good luck tonight Billy.

Hey Fast. thats funny. Every racer must be insane because we all do the same thing over and over and expect a different result. I just knew their was something wrong with me. I agree with Billy though I would park in the weeds before I paid 200 for a pit spot but having said that I disagree with my dad I look forward to racing at Perris and they are definetly going in the right direction.

Hey Chet you are following my reasoning......but wait , thing ARE STARTING TO CHANGE, and that is due to the SHOW starting to think differently than in the past and realizing that there is a DIFFERENT way...kinda like a DIFFERENT VIEW(hahahahaha...side joke) just in a better direction.
I will finish with this:
1. I don't fault the racer for wanting to secure through rental a pit spot.
2. I don't fault the promoter for their creative way to generate revenue...after all that is why they promote.
3. I don't fault you or Billy for acting on principle.
but let's not forget......this is a business of entertainment and it does cost more than ANY OF US WANT TO ADMIT TO PAY OR PURCHASE.
peace..............mike

I can see at some tracks where the pit parking setup would really create a market for paid spots. Kings would be a little tough because there really is not a bad spot to park there. I do understand the promoter looking for ways to create more income as long as they work just as hard to create a better place to everyone to race and show up to watch the racing.
The great thing about something like this, you have the option, if you feel the need to secure a spot ahead of time then by all means do so. If not then either show up early or take what you can get when you get there.

Chowchilla also charges for spots some with weeds and some with out. I think they charge 50.00 for the year.

I ment no disrespect to the facility of The PAS cause it is by far the best facility we race at, it's just in the wrong spot LOL four hrs of freeway and bozo traffic. All though, the staff at the PAS seemed to be alittle more helpful then the last time and I guess they made some staffing improvements so all in all, it was pleasent and to have real bathrooms with running water and soap to boot, what more could ya ask for(a shorter ride). LOL Duane
