new ideas
09/12/06 at 9:14pm
We are going to have a meeting wednesday sept 20th about the possibility of starting the IMCA stock cars at hanford for the 2007 season. We feel that there is no division to learn in, the step between the hobbies and the streets is too great ($ and ability) . Most of the guys that run E vs. W can run the mod division, the cost is close, and why not buy or build a car that is legal nationally? We are not trying to say that "IMCA" is the the way to go, only to talk and excersize options that will help the growth of our sport. If anyone has any questions please feel free to call me.

I tell you what ,its a fair idea the biggest problem would be camaros are not legal. Maybe IMCA sanctioned hobbys would be a better starting point, basically the type of cars without such a high start up cost. then if the hobbys are successful then interduce(??) the the streets. As there will be some legal cars to move up.

I think it is a great idea, it will keep the rules from changing on a weekly basis and maybe other tracks on the west will adopt the division.

I don't think too many of the hobbys that already exist will be legal for an IMCA class. Has anybody ever looked at the southern sport mod rules. Really close to our hobby rules. Might be cool.

We ran against some IMCA Street Stocks in Pahrump last year. According to their rules, none of our cars would be legal to run. Everything from chassis to engines would be illegal. There are way too many Street Stocks from Bakersfield to SMS to Kings to Chow and the northern tracks to have IMCA come in and dictate that all those cars are now illegal. Right now an E v W Super Street can run 5 tracks off the top of my head during the regular season and more than that in the Open season. We for one do not want to build a car in an engine claim class like the mods. Really enjoy watching them but to run one, never been real interested. Maybe the IMCA Hobby class might work as there is no real local embedded base of Hobbys in the Hanford area, but chasing the idea of IMCA Street Stocks is like canoeing up river with out a paddle...IMHO

Yes But. How many SS are there for these Races.
30 Tops If your Luck.
Many This could Be the Right Time to Bring something in Like this to Make the Ladder a Bit more Climbable.
I think if it was done right Everyone could Run these. And Still Have the EVW cars.
Or We could Final Come up with some Get Down to the Point Rules for EVW . So Step up to The Plate and Call Them the Limited Late Models.
Specialy When I see a SS Leaf Spring Car WITH 4 SCREW JACKs on the REAR.. 1 For each eye Let .. STREET??? Where is Street In that
This IMCA think Could Work For most. Just think We could Get More Racers Involved to the Racing.
Ever Looked around at How many IMCA Mod are around Here. Just think If they all Got to Gather for a GOOD Open Show. Like What WAS anb EVW is Doing. Look Out.
it is Something to think about. Yea you Might Loss Some of the EVW to it But Once thinks Get Going It Might have some Advantages too
Really Should Think about this a Bit More and MORE with a Open Mind...
If it was all done right We/ or Some Track could Put On a Show Like San Jose used to Do...
100+ LM
100+ Mods
100 +SS
For a Open..
NOW That could Be Cool

I'm all for the idea of an entry level stock car class, I'm not for moving to an IMCA Street Stock division that instantly makes 20-25 Bako, 10-15 SMS, 10-15 Hanford area, 15-20 Chowchilla based Street Stock cars illegal. So what do we do with our cars we have now, not to mention the engines that we have that are now illegal as well. If you want to play with semantics and call the Street Stocks that we have something different thats fine. Why don't we just call the American Stock type cars Hobby Stocks, call the current Hobby's Street Stocks and rename our cars something different.....

Changing the name of the E v W cars isn't going to make any more or less people race the division. When I started racing I didn't think "oh that division has a cool name, I think I'll build one". Anything with Mod in the name shouldn't have fenders. Stock cars have fenders, even late model stocks. If Hanford can build a class between hobbies and super streets, it would be great. We all need feeder divisions. I don't see it costing the current super street division many cars short term, and long term may increase the participation in the super street and modified divisions. A guy that starts finishing steadily at the top of the IMCA SS class, might start looking at the pay structure of the E v W, and think he wants to try racing for that. Good luck on this venture.

Nearly without fail, at any track I go to that runs IMCA Stock Cars they put on the best show (and generally draw the most cars). They are really big in the Midwest (of course there is no existing Super Stock class either.....)

Lee I totally agree. If they want to start this tweener class, I'm all for it as long as they are not talking about replacing our current Super Streets with it. I still hope that Frank and Sandie get it worked out where we get 3-4 E v W races at Kings next year. Actually the Hobby Stock class of car at Bako would be hard pressed to fit the IMCA rule book in some regards. Again, if they are looking at adding this class in addition to our current cars, awesome. To try and replace our current cars with this type of Street Stock I can't agree with.

i like the idea of most tarcks in the valley having the same rules....and i think renaming divisions...isnt going to change how people feel about them...just like lee said. i think it would be great for most tracks to have the same rules....that way you can race where ever you want.....ss and lms and mods have this going for them...hobbys...factorys..and americans dont....why not try to fit in with one of these already existing classes? but i really like the idea of haveing track have the same rules

I think the season should just be east west. This will be our last year running for SMS points. We will be running strictly EW. I hate racing in 9 car fields. It will look like a solid class sporting 18 plus cars every night. Bak/sms are too close together to hold their own series. When they added the IMCAs to sms it pulled like 5 ss drivers out of the class. Even the mod classs there only have 11-13 cars so now you just have to 2 low car count divisions. The answer is better promoting not more classes. Once the classes have structure then you can fine turn them.

You are right dirt box hero. If Kings follows along with the E v W rules for the next few years a person would be able to take their Super Street and run it at Perris, Santa Maria, Bako, Kings, and Chowchilla with the same rules package. That is really a great thing!!

i think all classes should be like supers....if all the promotors would come together and agree apon set rules....like the supers...then it would make it easier...for everyone

I wonder what the payout is for IMCA ss? One thing id like to see in 07 for the SS is a pay restructure. Its far to nose heavy making it hard for out of town cars to travel. Id like to see a series treated as a traveling show focusing on the entire field rather than the top 1-3 cars.
