Outlaw Motor Speedway - Hobby Stock Shootout
09/13/06 at 10:43pm

Grab Your Guns, Hobby Stock Shootout is Here!

OUTLAW MOTOR SPEEDWAY, 8 Miles South of Muskogee, Oklahoma & 11 Miles North of I-40 on HWY 69 -  Grab your guns, because this  Saturday’s 3rd Annual $2,000 to win 30 Lap Hobby Stock Shootout is going to be just that, a shootout.

With list of who is who in the Hobby Stock division battling, this race guarantees to be a gun fight at Outlaw Motor Speedway to see just who is the fastest gun slinger in the wild west.

“This is one of the most popular divisions that races here weekly and probably one of our most competitive,” says Track Owner Gary Clay. “We are going to see cars and drivers from 200 miles away come here to compete Saturday night.”

This year’s Hobby Stock shootout could be one of the best in the short history of the race if the 2006 points race was any indication.

Muskogee’s #327 Dale Richardson took home his first career points championship after holding off #75 Randy Moses II, #60 Ray Hutcherson, #75M Randy Moses Sr. and Ft. Gibson’s #00 Lynn Combs as the top five  positions all had a shot at the title with two weeks remaining.

Richardson shut the door after he picked up his fifth win in 2006 on the next to last week of the point season.
The hands down favorite for this season’s Shootout has to be Richardson, who is also the career wins leader at the Outlaw with 17.

Last season it was youngster #00 Kyle Berry of Popular Bluff, Missouri that took home the bounty and the win while holding off Ft. Smith’s #12K Chuck Knight and South Coffeyville’s #15c Matt Collins, Bartlesville’s #47 Joseph Gorby’s  in the process.

Most look for Berry to return to defend his title but this year’s crop of drivers are sure to make him sweat this year.

Last season’s points champion #38s Tim Sands started the 2006 season out on fire and looked to secure his second points title but disappeared after he picked up his third win of the season on May 13th.

Sands won the inaugural race in 2004 and should return as one of the favorites for this season.

Moses II has three A-Feature wins to his name and has been an example of consistency, finishing in the top five in nearly 75% of his races.

Combs moved up to Hobby Stock after dominating Pure Stock in 2005 with 18 wins and taking home the point championship but finally broke through last week with his first Hobby Stock A-Feature win of his career.

Hutcherson finished third in points this season, just two points ahead of Combs, and has three career Hobby Stock wins at OMS.

Moses Sr. rounded out the top five in points this season and has yet to collect a Hobby Stock win at the Outlaw but the long time racer is a threat in every race he competes in.

A few other favorites for this year’s race has to be Fort Gibson’s #127 Andy Morris who has collected 12 career wins at the Outlaw and picked up three wins this season alone.

Cousin’s Okay’s #7s Tom Snyder and Muskogee’s #36 Gary Snyder each have a win this season and the pair have 12 wins between them. Gary Snyder won the 2004 points championship and finished 14th in the points chase behind Tom Snyder this season.

Some notables to look out for Saturday night are Ft. Gibson’s #34 Darrien Austin who was the highest finishing local driver last season at seventh.

Sapulpa’s #65 Justin Green stole one win this season and should contend as well as Spiro’s #75x Brookin Stephens who finished seventh in points and one win in 2006.

Tahlequah trio of #6 Mark Martin, #10x Jason Lee Ward and #29 Jesse Bracket should all make a push for the win.

Stilwell’s #10 Brian Parker and #11 Terry Muskrat both have proven that they can race with the best and should contend as they both have visited victory lane in the past.

Sallisaw’s #39 Robert Southerland, Haskell’s #73 Jay Arnold, Muskogee’s #42 Eldon Bales, Checotah’s #56 Aaron Barker, Pea Ridge, Ar. #01 Jeremy Hoffman and Siloam Springs #26 John Turner should all challenge for the win.
