Are the SS ready for store bought chassis?
09/26/06 at 7:36pm

Obviously this year we saw the introduction of the Victory Circle car.  Long term affects will be everyone converting and the street car build up will be a thing of the past.  I'm just posing the question.  I'm on the fense I guess.

It's a heck of a problem in more ways than one. First of all what would you consider a store bought chassis. Victory Circle has one car on the dirt now, Gator has a dozen or more maybe. I plan to build a new chassis over the winter, I'll build it at race prep, on the plate just like the rest of the cars that come out of there. So now just because I build mine myself do I get to call it a home built? Some have the resources I have, and some don't. A guy probably should be able to go buy the chassis of their choice. If you have the knowledge and the resources to build a good chassis you still can, but if you want to pay the extra money, which probably isn't that bad if we counted our labor hours building it, to have a top of the line chassis you can have one. I may be being arrogant, but I feel if you don't let people buy store bought chassis, people like myself, pounds, and a few others will have a bigger advantage over a majority of the home built cars than the Store bought cars will have over me in the end.

Tracks might struggle to keep out the GRT type chassis once the field is full of fabbed cars.   I still like to see the racers build and bring out their own creations but those days are numbered I guess. Will it bring in more cars? Could it lower car counts?  I guess we gotta weigh all that stuff.

Preston I'm not sure. It's been a long time since Terry has built a full SS chassis. That I know of. I can ask tomorrow and get back with you though.

Ugh not another new chassis,  with my luck if I build a new 105" car then the rules will go back to 108 or somthing.
Mabe we will win enough in the open's, that we could afford a new chassis

I think the manufacturer should have to have a stamp welded to the chassis, not a welded #, thats too easy to duplicate

Are you guys trying to change the class to limited late models? Haven't there been enough changes already? If you wish to see "shop fabbed" (non stock frames) just call them what they will be.
Let the little guys enjoy themselves for a while before things change again.

Whether they're manufactured or not, they need to fit the rules. Which includes full front clip.

BODIES GUIDELINES:

8.     Complete steel floor pan / firewall. Must extend frame to frame. Right side may be raised to accommodate exhaust, no higher than drive line tunnel.

CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION:

1.     Frame must be full OEM frame rails.

4.     Rear clip may be made of 2”x 3” steel tubing; tubing must extend to rear bumper. Rear frame rails should be a minimum of 40” apart measured from inside to inside.

5.     Uni – body cars may tie in frame rails front to rear

As long as they meet the rules I think manufactured chassis should be OK.

Lee, any car with 105 wheelbase and irrecognizable leaf spring mounts is a store bought car.  How much more do you need. Don't forget to include no MD noses in your rules.
