O K folks..10 days without a post!  we asked for this section, lets fire it up...
We can discuss ( or cuss) about our tow rigs..maybe our trailer set ups..how about our weekly prep / maintenance routine? Crew responsabilities?..
Any subject that helps people get to the races and to the front would be good info to share here.
We veteran racers need to sread the info for OUR sport to survive!
Just to jump start a thread...how do you make your car turn so far to the RIGHT, for correction steer??
  Anybody want to share?
Dave

Man, i've had lots of nicknames over the years..but thats a new one!
some way more complimentary, some far less nice. LOL Cheesy...
and as for that fire thing....it's my motor and i'll burn it if i want too !   LOL  Cheesy...
still trying to figure that one out..how a fitting that i installed and tightened and the crew chief also put a wrench on and then we checked for leaks with the motor running before the race...waits 18 laps and then comes loose??
as for the official thing....................pm me so i can find out your real name..i will respect your privacy...but i will not discuss this kind of issue unless i know who you are,  after the last 4 years at watsonville  02 / 05  i learned to be careful about what i say in public.. been burned / misquoted too many times...
if you know me as well as it sounds like you do, you should have my cell #.. same # for the last 7-8 years.

Hey Dave if it is your choice to burn your motor, you might want to do it in your driveway instead of trying to burn Phil's eyebrows off.  If the wrench that went on the fuel fittng was the same wrench that went on the motor that Jeff Mead loanded MAD MAN maybe that wrench is ready to burn with the motor.  Looking forward to a big glow!!!!!

OK, i'll bite... even though i know better !
LOANDED ?   And you better ask the person who assembled jeff's motor why the rod bolt broke, cuz it wasn't my work.. I installed the motor in the car, and we hauled it to oildale...when the rod bolt broke i borrowed a motor from todd souza and installed it at the track..
sounds like you are implying that i was somehow responsible for jeff's motor failure...
I take responsability for my mistakes, and phil's fire is mine..even with another person checking my work and double checking with the motor running...it happened... my fault...
funny thing, phil is not at all upset.. he understands that accidents happen..
just goes to show how some people live to focus on the negative all the while forgetting the good things people have done for them..
I do not hide behind an alias.
I do not snipe and take shots.
SO , porky and elmer ( who may be the same person) if you have anything to say to me, or about me... stand up and use your REAL name.
  Dave Lewis
and do it in a phone call or pm so this board is not wasting space with your personal problems..

hey Dave, Jeff Mead here.  I knew if I responded to Elmer you would come back and play the big I AM.  I offered Mike a motor that was no where near completion.  One week after you personaly had to take apart a motor Mike had bought with a parts car and put back together and blew up in the heat race at San Jose and you charged him to assembel it.  Ripper fronted all the machine work and all the parts to finish it, Mike bought a cam and lifters.  When putting the motor together in your shop I broke a ring and called you to see if you had one.  You said yes put as much as you can together and I will bring it down after work.  You showed up with the ring, put on the piston, put the piston in the hole, put the rod cap on, snug it up while we were taking the old motor out and said got to dinner with my wife.  after the motor was out I came over put the pan on, not checking the rod nuts (that is were I went wrong).   Motor goes in the car, with the help of me, Mike, Travis, and Jason or Berry, no you did not install the motor you were at dinner and next door at McCouns.  You showed up to start the thing and load it.  To clearify even more Mike towed the car down, I got there late, Mike said the thing made a noise but I could not hear it suprise, suprise.  The motor come apart in the heat race.  Then you show up and it was Travis that borrowed the motor from Todd  and outside of barking orders all night and in the morning I think the only thing that you did was change the rockers and studs and even that turned into a huge delima.  After we get home and I muster up enough money to pay Ripper back, alls I hear for the next 9 to 10 years is how it was all my fault.  Dont have Jeff touch anything.  Now who is on the outside looking in, have fun on the computer, I will be at the track.   Have not seen you there much sense the fall from power.

Wait, head official at Ocean??? Don't count on me or about another 2-3 cars coming back if thats true...

Nothing personal, just wasn't a big fan of how things were when you were at the track as an official or as a man of power to the speedway...

Thats a deffinate loss of 2 cars if there is any truth to that, and more than likely an additional 2 cars that will stay home with me, no names need be mentioned of the others...

I think the thread should be renamed "First mistake in putting a motor together". More than one person assembling a motor always ends in a failure, and turning it into a relay race will only make it worse.. Sounds like everyone had good intentions.

On my first motor I ever built which actually had some nice part in it, I put the pistons and rods in the wrong holes. There was 0 gap between the rods.  Lived the whole year.  Don't ask me how.  I talked to Bob Joenck about it and he told me they sometimes put the pistons in the opposite holes but told me not to get into that sh@t.  Im still running that motor as my backup.. 8 years old

Honestly, it sounds like every one is trying to blame some one else, when in fact all involved could have double checked some torques(a good practice any way), and prevented catastrophic failure. There are about a thousand things to remember to do when assembling an engine, and ignoreing any one of them will ruin just about the whole job. I'm sure it's a whole lot beeper than that though.
