bako hobby rear end ?
09/17/09 at 8:01pm

are the bako hobby's allowd to run a full or mini spool in the rear ends?

i looked at the rules and it says "no aluminum spools" does that mean that steel spools or ok?

Thanks...
Rich

oh, and what gears should he be running with a powerglide?

Yes you can run a full spool as long as it is not aluminum. I have run 7.33 and 4.11 with my powerglide. I have heard some running a 4.22 gear as well.

depends on the RPMs your looking for. i turn between 6600-7100 with my 411.

with a 733 running in drive you have to have a balanced drive line...

If you run in drive with a 7.33 rear gear the drive shaft is spinning at engine rpm (i.e. 6600-7100 rpm ).  All the reduction is done with the rear gear.

If you run in first with a 4.11 rear gear the drive shaft is spinning much slower because the first reduction happened in the trans (1.82 or 1.76).  In this case the drive shaft would be spinning at  3750 or 3626rpm (depending on 1st gear ratio), assuming 6600 engine rpm.

IMO the shaft should be balanced in either case but it is more critical if you're running in drive.

THIS IS EXACTLY RIGHT. IF YOU DONT BALANCE YOUR DRIVE SHAFT WITH A 7.33 AND RUN DRIVE YOU WILL BE PULLING YOUR TRANSMISSION OUT TO GET IT LOOKED AT BOUT EVER 3 TO 5 RACES.....AND ON TOP OF THAT THE DRIVER WILL NOT ENJOY THE VIBRATION TO GO ALONG WITH IT LOL.

4.11 WITHOUT A BALANCED BUT GOOD(NOT BENT OR ANYTHING) DRIVELINE YOU CAN STILL RUN THE WHOLE SEASON WITH A GILS TRANSMISSION POWERGLIDE WITHOUT NEEDING A REBUILD MID SEASON

this is my opinion also. you are just gambling if you run a non balanced driveshaft. but thanks for the indepth answers guys
