question
10/28/09 at 7:43am
What would be better?
Street Stock big event for $5000 to win or Hobby Stocks big event for $5000 to win? Who would have more cars show up? If it were $500 to start for both?
thanks

easy.....hobbys for both.....the super hobbys put on the better show at SMS this year, at least from my vantage point in the stands. kinda helps when you dont have to worry about having a full A main event & an occasional B main
at this point in time, hobbys would put on a better show, and bring more cars

If you are looking at car count it has to be hobby's I think the highest car count was close to 40 or more for hobbys. I think the highest car count for streets has been 19 or so.

The SS class on the western side of the USA, as far as I know, there has not been a race for more than $2000 to win. In 06 or 07 at the Steitzs race there were 65-70 SS cars there. So there is the SS"s out there. I think, at the right venue, timing and some promotion, you could get cars from all over the western USA.
You can talk up the hobbies all you want and they are a very good class of racers. Bako has had a $5000 to win two or three years in a row and there was talk that they could not get more than 35-40 car to show. JMO

The highest car count for SS this year was 24. Hobbys would bring more cars, Streets would put on a better show.

I like both divisions but this will need a lot more input before we head off into a Street Stock or Hobby Stock open Western Championship. We would like to do one in 2010. We would be shooting for over 100 entries. If a big show is going to happen, then lets think big. The idea is to give a boost to another division and offer a loaded payout all the way from 24th place to the top. It's all about setting records and filling seats.
I'm not blowing hot air drivers, I'm not talking to hear myself talk, I'm going to us the message boards to find out which will have the biggest following and we will put on the most spectacular show for the fans. If the first one is a success then I fully intend on doing the other division as a follow up. Who wants to go first?
Pass the word, that this is for real. I gave up blowing smoke a couple of years ago, it's all about payouts and opportunities of racing against the best in your division.
We love to see top dogs, middle dogs, and dogs that think they are big dogs. It's all about the attitude and the payout. This is entirely up to you Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks. We will set a new entry record in the State of California. The payout will be huge, and you will have the time of your life.
Opportunity is knocking on the door. What's it going to be?
This ain't no trick or treat, however, happy Halloween to all the racing kids out here.
I hope you all got the picture. Lets see if your really interested and or have ideas about the biggest event in Western Racing History. I'm taking this right to the trenches to find out from you what it is you want. How's that for listening?
Let's go racing. Include this event in 2010: in your, geeeeee, we must be at this race in 2010.

So whats the deal? You so fired up about this race you couldn't get to sleep?
Where is this race gonna be?
In the beginning of the year or the end?
Why would anyone think you are blowing smoke?
Who are you?

In 2006 they had a $3,500 to win SS race in Pahrump, NV. 6 or 7 of us went from California. They had SS cars from Oregon, Arizona, Nevada, Ca, and Colorado there. They ended up with around 50 cars. Us California cars finished 4 out of the top 5...

In 2007 the hobby 100 had 60 entries and in 2008 it had ~39.
IMO The open shows are typically a rip off to the racer. The purse is increased but so is the entry and the show is spread over two day. They are just a lot of fun because you get to race and car you don't normally see.
However, Harvick Night at Bako earlier this month was the best example I can think of where an open show was actually good for the racer....No special entry, just a normal pit pass. Not spread over two days so I have to buy two pit passes. $1500 to win and $100 to start. That was a good deal for the racer and they got ~35 cars on a wednesday night.
Perris did the same thing during their fair race. It paid $1100 to win with no extra entry fee. Unfortunately, they didn't get the word out.
So IMO the way to attract cars (at least at the hobby stock level) is to offer inexpensive entry and a decent payout ($5000 isn't necessary).

Y not run both ???? SS and hobby and make it the biggest show ever seen in ca on dirt, (2 classes) if where talking BIG let's go BIG, and don't rape the driver's and crow at the back gate, make your money at front gate & grand stan's, But if your going to run only 1 class hobby's is the why to go

This is Mike, just so everyone knows who I am.

Central location, nice facility, perfect--IMO
If it falls at a good time, I could rattle the cages of my MO buddies.
This time of year is cool, as they're done, and usually close cause they run ElCentro and VV on Thanksgiving.
We got a couple of local SS cars that want to go back to Enid's 10K in Sept, next year

The most important issue would be what it paid to start the A main and the entry money. You have to make it so everyone can sorta afford to come and race. The bottoms up SS purse is a good example of what is needed to make it affordable for the racer. A big winner purse won't always draw cars.1 winner the other fifty guys help pay.
