It's NOT the driving wheels that count. It's the horsepower to weight ratio.
Engines from the 70's and 80's don't produce anywhere near the power of similar sized powerplants of the 90's, therefore, a class based on weight vs. engine SIZE gives the FWDs an edge.
IF the class was based on weight vs advertised HORSEPOWER, I seriously doubt if you'd notice a difference.
The 2009 Mini Stocks at SMS produced a good car count EVERY time they ran.
Cris Kearns watched that during the year, THEN decided NO CHANGE. Why alienate a solid base of rear wheel cars to introduce something new, and, at this time, un-necessary?
Even though the newer technology could produce more efficient, faster, cars, it isn't necessary. Keeping all the cars competitive is more important.
If not, then why is NASCAR still requiring CARBURETORS?
