Hey does anyone know any information on the pros and cons or myths and facts on using LNG as an alternative fuel source??

When I was growing up on the farm in So. Dak.  My Dad had a Ford 332 industrial motor for our irrigation well that was Natural Gas adapted.  Yes the Seat had to be very hard, at the time I think(if I remember correctly) the were called something like Neolite. But not positive about that. Motor would run 21 Hrs. a day all summer long at 3300 RPM's with dual straight pipes about two ft. long going straight up. Beautiful sound!!!

Drilling natural gas wells in Tx is a big deal right now. I know, I considered going out there. Then I came to my senses.........lol. It really IS the answer to our energy needs. It burns clean, and is plentifull.

I don't claim to have any experience or expertise on alternative fuels nor do I care to engage in debate on the issue, but the obvious concerns would be safety in transportation, storage, and delivery.

To remain in liquid form pressure must be maintained. Pressure also determines how full your tank can be. Less pressure, less mileage per tank of fuel.

Then you have the question of tank life. Pressurized tanks require periodic testing and certification to insure safety. How old can your vehicle be without replacing the fuel tank?

Can it be done? Sure......if it can be sold to the general public in a way that can be profitable for suppliers and safe, affordable, and convenient for consumers.

I believe the Gulf of Mexico is the Natural Gas production leader

Most new car engines on the assy line used to be first test fired on LNG

I know in high school ( many moons ago ) 1978, one of my friends Skip, his dad had a 1972 elcamino LNG powered, it had a tank about 2' dia. the length of the width of the bed, right behind the cab, his dad must have weighed 400lbs, and my other friend got caught painting "Fatman" on the tank, when he got caught ( by Skips dad ) red handed, he said it was in reference to the Bomb that was dropped on nagasaki not him being fat.... I laughed my tushy off.

I do remember them bragging, ( Skip and his dad), on how good the mileage was.

There is a point to this thread, Once I get a chance to research the subject. I met an electrical engineer a few months ago and he was giving me a bunch of facts and figures along with conspiracy theories about LNG. he said something for something LNG is Far superior to any current mass produced fuel. I believe the BTU factor was 7 to 1 on any other type of fuel.  I wanted to hit you all up first to see if anyone had the research done already. According to the guy i met, his boss is currently working on an airplane which uses LNG in the system. That's the side job, the current jobs are setting up new LNG plants all over the west. He said it's a literal gold mine, and on a separate note, the conspiracy against it is frustrating.
