The Jack Daniels Distillery Tour-Excellent!!
12/18/09 at 9:07am

Back in late October I drove up to scenic Lynchburg, Tennessee, and full filled a long time wish. Taking the tour of the place that make Jack Daniels whiskey. Even if you don't drink or like whiskey, it is extremly interesting and worth it, it's also free. Some kind of process. Interesting that Moore County is "dry" and you can't buy the hootch. You can take a virtual tour on their website. For me I have been a "sour mash" consumer with JD being my hands down favorite. Well worth the trip. I bought some Jack Daniels Bar-B-Que pellets. These pellets are from the whiskey soaked charcoal used for mellowing the hootch. You make an aluminum foil packet with the pellets inside and after your coals get white you put em' right on top and then grill. Of sh*& does it smell good and add a killer flavor the the meats, especially slow cooked beef ribs.

I've seen the tour on tv, but always wanted to see it in person. I thought someone said they are going out of business?? No way right??

As for drinking it......huh uh...just hearing the name makes me want to fight.

They were sold years ago to a giant beverage firm. This place is so cool. It runs at max-capacity. The limestone caves that run for miles under the joint is awesome to see. The day I was there they were getting deliveries of corn, cookin' the stuff etc. You could see the clear 140 proof hotch coming out of the still on it's way to the charcoal mellowing vats. One thing that was just super cool was the barrel houses, they got like 8 or 9 of em' with each holding a couple thousand barrels. They do everything in house except grow the grains that come from three states.

i have a jack daniels collectable tin that i store 50cent pieces and silver dollars in.

kinda weird how the distillary is in a dry county. being from the west coast, (only been to the east coast once on a DC trip for 8th grade, but got to see richmond, va, balitmore, Philly, and of course DC) its hard to fathom a dry county because i dont think california has any?

sounds like a fun tour, i'll have to check that out if i ever venture to tennessee, along with tazwell speedway and downtown nashville, memphis etc....

Smart Guy. if you ever come down South, I'll fix you up with racing and the sites. 2 cool tracks are just minutes for the distillery, Duck River and Summertown. Late Model tracks, no push em' & flip ems' at all. If you come to Tn to see a show at Tazewell, let me know, I'll meet ya up there.

Great tour if you are in the area! Been to it twice, 1978 and 2005. I worked for them on the West coast in 1978 and took my dad and brother out the tour in 2005. We are big Jack fans and enjoyed the area.. Mark did you eat at the Boarding House?  I believe the name is Mary Bo'Bos or something like that. Great food, they have been serving since around 1900 or so?
