10 Bolt Rear End Question
01/19/10 at 5:50pm

I’m in need of your help with my 10 bolt rear end.  Today I tried to take out the axles by removing the 8 mm bolt that holds the pin in the middle of the spider gears. A course with my luck the darn bolt was broke ¾ of the way in.  With my limited knowledge I tried to drill a hole in the broke bolt and use a counter sink to pull it out.  Well I had no luck with that but I did accomplish screwing up the threads yeah me. LOL…  There is no way of pulling the center gears out as the axles are still in the rear end.  So what do I do from here?  I need your help.  Thanks.

Did the threaded part of the bolt break off. Usually they break at the end of the threads leaving just the pin in the carrier and the large pin that goes thru the carrier and spider gears.

I have gotten these pins out before when they have broken. May sound crazy but here goes. I have taken a very sharp chisel and broke the end of the large pin that the small pin goes in, there is not that much material between the small pin hole and the end of the pin. You can then slide the pin out of the spider gears and remove broken pin by screwing pin inward. Hope this makes sense. Oh yea wear eye protection or a face shield to protect yur mug.  Let me know if this helps

We took the threaded part that you pulled out that looks like a threaded plug now and chuck it up in a lathe. Drill a small hole in the center to use it as a pilot to drill a hole in the leftover part in the rear end. It worked pretty good. Use a left handed drill bit and easy out.

Get the torch and cut it out, that's what I did.

There are plenty of people who can give you a carrier and what else you mess up with the torch.

Good luck!
