I'm old and I don't have any little kids, but I agree with ya 100%.
Just what exactly did happen to the dress codes in school?

DRESS CODE
just another advantage to Private School. The dress code has saved me thousands in clothes that would have otherwise been purchased and tossed when they did not fit.
Your education system at work. i opted out in 1991 when my son started school and dont whine to me that it cost too much cause i was makin under 15 and hour between his 2nd thru 6th grade years and still got it done. I have an employee who pays more for after school day car than i did for my youngest sons tuition last year here in Bako.If more would opt out the system would fall. Chances are slim that it will happen so i will just pass the cheese to go with the wine.
peace..................mike

Our kids have been in private school since my boy finished 5th grade. Yeah were struggling a little to pay the bills and private schools are not perfect but our son is on his way to college this September.
Actually our daughter is a sophmore and she is attending Cabrillo this year after 6 years in private school.
She went to one of the dances and when she came home she could not believe what some of the girls were wearing and the style of dancing that was going on, It made her feel uncomfortable.
(side note: dont think I could do it on non union construction wages)

My wife and I decided before we got married that when we had kids, they WOULD go to private school. Like Mike, I was making 15/hr when my son was in elementary. I now have 2 kids in private school, and it aint easy! Here's how I do it. My truck is a '92 F350 that I bought for $500, and took a year to rebuild what I HAD to to put it on the road. I just moved my wife UP to a '99 expedition from a '92 explorer. A friend of mine had the expedition and it had a few issues. She wanted me to help her fix the problems, so I gave her 2 prices... 1 for fixing it, and the other for buying it as is. She sold it to me for $2000. We don't eat out, we don't go to movies, my kids don't wear designer clothes(boo hoo), and instead of racing a mod or lm or ss, I have a mini stock... barely. So, the car payments alone that most of you are making would be enough to cover tuition. What it comes down to is, it a choice. Some people will do what it takes no matter what, others value their "things" more than a private school education. Don't hear that statement as judgmental, it's not. If your choice is not private school, thats fine. I'm just sick and tired of people saying they can't afford it! In my opinion, I can't afford not to.
Btw Mike, where do your kids go... Bako Christian??? I hear that's a great school.

I aplaude you for doing that in many ways, we tried private school for our granddaughter, but she has so many special needs, and private school kids made a lot of fun at her because of her needs, that we had to move her to public school. She was in a Baptist private school, a very nice one which we knew from the start, but she just didnt fit into the little clicks of the kids that had been going to school since pre-school. I too dont make a big living, but we dont have a very lavish life either, dont have payments on a car or dont have a race car to support. We do have a new house payment, forced to move out of where we were living because of problems with older kids...But that and this is all part of life, and I would guess that maybe somebody upstairs did this for a reason, but yes if you can afford and your kids can do the work and adapt, I have no problem with private school, but again public schools can and do educate kids, and there are plenty here where we live on the coast that have excelled in public school and had not problems with parents or vice versa...JMOO...Don

Andrew: Very nice post.
8 years at Stockdale Christian @ an estimated total cost of 28k. do the math....291.66 per month.
we are at Garces Memorial High School now at an estimate of 30k for the 4 years.(but we are in the 1st year! so estimate only!)
I may get greif for writting this but my opinion is that Garces has the best Academic program of the 2.(BCHS)
Don: School in general can be cruel. I agree with you on all points. i would add that the %'s of children meeting an acceptable level of education by a reasonable standerd has plummetted down in the last 25+ years...and i wont argue why...lol
I also APPLAUD you in your efforts with your granddaughter!
i will also have a nice book about "electronic entertainment" and it's affect on the kids brain i want you to read...and kdawg they will be here next week! lol
Bob: thanks for making me use my "shift" key.....lol

Just for the record about Private Schools. Some of you won't like this, but frankly I'm not sweating it.
My Best Friend (even today) was pulled out of High School and made to attend the areas largest Christian School. (most prestigious, well educated.....Bull Chit). My buddy got into more fights and more trouble than he ever did in the public school.
I have yet another friend whom made his best $$$ from the kids in that same Christian school. Seems the public school kids can only afford a toke or two off a joint, but the Private school students could afford the coke meth what have you.
I could cite personal examples of "why Private schools are Bull Chit" but Personal Opinions are like butt holes.
In the end it's up to YOU to teach your kids. Just My .02

for the record i never indicated anywhere or any time that the private schools were not having same social issues as the public schools.....i did however cite the academic standard..your right, you will get out of them what you put into them.

You talking about ministocker56? haha. California public schools are a joke for the most part. I'm glad I was involved in sports and had to maintain a high GPA to be eligible and parents that forced me to maintain one as well. Lack of parenting and funding would be the main thing to blame. California spends $43,287 annually on a prisoner. According to the California Department of Education the average per pupil expense for the 07-08 school year was $8,594. Who knows what it will be at next year with all these budget cuts. I just hope they keep the sports programs, if not, most of those kids' grades will probably drop.
Private school is the way to go at this point.

Wouldnt expect you to sweat it. It's just a meesage board...

I guess his parents didn't teach him. Did they expect a Christian school would fix there high school kid?

Shame on your friend for selling drugs to high school kids

The thing about private schools is that parents have there choice, if one is bull $hit you can choose another with a better program, hopefully the crappy ones go out of business.
In the end it's up to YOU to teach your kids. Just My
