Mounting a beadlock
03/23/10 at 2:08pm
Hey-- Looking for advice on the best way to mount up a beadlock. I've done it before on the old streetstock--- but I always had problems with leaks.
Any tips? Silicone sealant? 500 ft. lbs of torque on the bolts? 2 beers before assembly? lol
Any tips from start to finish would be appreciated.
Thanks---------

Make sure both Beads are Clean,on the Wheel & the Tire. Even Torque on the Lock Ring Bolts is important, tighten every other one till they are all snug. I use 1-can of Liquid/Aerosol Tire Sealer in mine, & never get a Leak

2 beers
after
assembly is the proper sequence. Reward for a job well done. If you do it often enough, you'll get faster at it because you know the beer's getting warm.

Mike, I personally wouldnt add anything inside my tire (unless it was a softner)lol . Like the previous post said, If wheel is clean, tire doesnt have a leak and torque it down evenly you should have no problem. Now I know on a race car that is alot of variables.lol chet

FRAZIER15,
YES, I use an Aerosol Fix A Flat type product in all my BeadLocks. Been doing that since 2002 when we had to Run the Antioch Style American Racer Tire that would Bleed Air right out through the Sidewalls

I never thought of fix a flat... that's brilliant! All it takes is one bump the the ring and it will never seal(totally) again. I like it.

I just had this problem. As discussed cleaning the surface/bead side with a chissel making sure all dirt, paint, is removed worked for me. Had a small leak and thought i did a good job but it wasn't good enough. It must be clean.

They usually dont leak enough to affect a race. I wouldnt add anything because that fix a flat stuff sucks to deal with when you bust the tire back off. Ask any tire guy. New tire and wheel prolly wont leak or maybe just enough to go flat after a week on stands. No biggie! And Mike you RULE!

When I said use Fixa Flat, I meant the Aerosol Version, not Slime. No mess with the Aerosol type, & some even say it might bleed through & act as a Tire Softener, but ya didn't heard that part from me

adding anything into your tire is not good. water adds moisture which affects the tire pressures when tire gets warm. Dry is the only way.
