Does anyone wear sunblock when they weld?  I never have but I've gotten some pretty bad sunburns on the side of my face.  Maybe from tacking welds.  My derm looked at me a while back and asked if I did welding.. That can't be good.

i dont wear sunblock when i weld. but you can get a "sunburn like" burn from welding (from arc welding at least) by welding in light colored clothes such as a white t-shirt. it happened to a friend of mine one time lol. now he wears a leather jacket buttoned all the way up everytime he has to stick weld. like the above poster said, it is smart to wear all the proper equipment to weld, even for short or quick jobs such as tacking  

I am also a welder and fabricator, you should always wear the proper clothing and keep yourself safe!  dont ever wear polyester shorts while welding    or flip flops   been there done that!  I dont wear sleeves though ive been welding for many years and havent got a sunburn or burnt yet, guess it just depends on your skin color, yall must be milky white or something haha!

I used to make the kids in the school shop be full faced helmet, welding jacket and gloves, and if I caught any kid without full protection, it was off the machine, and informed the instruction he was breaking safety rules, and yes it is very important to use full protection...I was just a volunteer advisor, but I believe in full safety and wearing T-shirts and small face shield is looking for serious burns both to flesh and also skin for slag balls...JMOO...Don

When I worked at Flowmaster I wore leathers and long sleeves everyday, if my leathers started to get a little worn I knew it right away because I would have a hell of a burn started.

i do exhaust for a living. during the winter i wear long sleeves. but id rather not. sleeves and gloves always catch slag and sparks. its just like tanning, after my first arm burn of the summer, i just tan from then on. chicks dig the farmer/welder tan!

I run the muffler shop at work & do all the work , I've never had that problem
