I don't believe the last statement! I 've raced there at their Pettit race the last couple years and to be quite honest they put on a fair and honest program. Not to mention the Modifieds run very well on that track. 1JR

I heard it was going to be IMCA NSM rules which are 3 link with solid links, and 9:1 2bbl or sealed 602 with a 4bbl carb.

There is already a national set of rules for a Sport Mod. Obviously they work or Sport Mods wouldn't be the fastest growing class in racing. Why would you want to mess with that?

People - Bap33 is "laughing out loud" because if a track has a sanctioning body such as IMCA; we would not be having this discussion. I have not changed my mind, but during this yellow, we might want to rethink this.
Mike C: are the national rules you speak of IMCA?

Festus,
You are correct, but to be honest, my lol was more about folks unwilling to change their cars to meet a set of rules ... then suggesting that other folks change their cars to meet a set of rules .... and I figured the poster was kidding, since those two points made by him contradict so obviously - that they had to be made in jest.

One could look at these current track specific rules this way:  These rules reflect the IMCA mod class after it had been "adjusted" over a 10 to 15 year span .. lets say circa 2001 or so ... and by that time the "cat was out of the bag", so to speak, and was getting expensive.  THe better traction was allowing/requiring for more power and better parts for engines and trannys to live.  So, maybe, what I am suggesting is for this move to a less expensive class be taken advantage of, and the traction, power, and expense of operation, be taken back to the place were the class was most accessible to more racers accross the board.

Sanctioned by IMCA is the better way for the racers to enjoy their hobby, and that "should" make it better for everyone - fans, tracks, sponsors, wives, today's racers, and tomorrow's racers.

But, the central valley economy is really, really, bad.  Really bad. Only wealthy racers don't feel or see it.  And the demographic that does this hobby is shrinking as a percentage of California.  And disposable income is at an all-time low ... like, 1929-31 low ... but, midgets were still racing all over at that time, so maybe the right kind of racing will gain the market share and carry us through?

Festus, yes I'm talking about IMCA rules, weather you use the sanction or not. The sanction is great for the extra insurance. If you ever get hurt at a non- sanctioned track and spent any time in a hospital don't expect any help from the track insurance. Been there.
But, at least use the rules and stick to them.( Although it won't happen, someone with some influence will get them changed anyway)
Also it would be great for local racers to go to the IMCA Nationals and compete without having to change a bunch of stuff on the cars. JMO.

Instead of changing rules to "fit" Chow cars........the chow cars should change to fit the IMCA NSM rules.  If everybody ran these rules IMCA or not this whole thing would be a none issue. IMCA rules address the suspension differences and the compression /engine differences that Bako/ Chow have.   Ive also got a feeling that Ocean will pay more than 30 to win the main event.  This class will die if everybody does not get on the same page for rules.  At least make them close enough that the changes can be made quickly and cheaply to run both places.

im just sayin it would be better for the people who already have car built for chowchilla because if we have to build new motors when we already have them its makes more sense to change a compression rule and try to get all tracks on the same page chowchilla has had more than 20 new cars out at different time this season so hopefully they will race somewhere Smiley

Chow should have put a little more thought into their rules package.

From Ocean's perspective, we are trying to salvage the equipment from a dying Hobby Stock class and instead of making super streets (yawn) we make Sports Mods which IMCA has already had in place but using the Hobby engines we all have. The prices are almost exact for a Sports Mod vs a Hobby which is the goal here for progression of the "middle" series.

Simple.
