FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FLOODING CAUSES THE RED FLAG TO BE THROWN AGAIN-NO RACES MAR. 26

The waves of rain that swept into the San Francisco Bay area this weekend again flooded Antioch Speedway to the point of saturation, making it impossible to open the speedway this weekend. The red flag has been thrown for March 26.

The track crew has worked non-stop trying to pump out the infield, with front and backstretch pumps going non-stop all week long. Constant rain thwarted all efforts to lower the water level.

"We will have to make the April 9 Golden State Winged Sprint event our opening show of the season," promoter John Soares explained. "There is NO April 2 event because we have the DIRTCar UMP Modified Challenge between Merced and Calistoga Speedways scheduled for that weekend, which is also World of Outlaws weekend at those two tracks."

Antioch's sister track, Merced Speedway, located in the central valley, received less rain during the week. Soares said he was cautiously optimistic that Merced would be opened on Sunday as scheduled.

"We will just have to wait and see how much rain falls Thursday and Friday," he explained. "We have a good idea how many days are needed to dry the tracks out. When we saw how much rain fell overnight at Antioch on Wednesday, we realized it was 'no way' we could race this weekend."
