I may have wrote that wrong. My appoligies if it came out incorrectly.
Let me try again.
There are classes were big money can be found. If anyone wants to go race for big cash, they will be doing so against elite drivers. There is nothing holding them back from doing so. All that needs to happen is for them to take their desire, their money, and their skill, and go get some. Sammy Swindell, Kyle Bush, Mark Bloomquist, Chris Shannon, Bobby Hogge, Paul Stone, Brad Pounds .... they stand ready to accept the challenge of anyone wanting to run for the money. Go get some. Any true racer would.
I hope that cleared up what I was trying to say.
Stepping up one's game is an expensive undertaking at times, in my opinion.

Not too sure about Mark Bloomquist, but I know that a Scott Bloomquist is pretty fast in a Dirt Late Model..LOL...BTW, I thought that an A Mod driver could not race a Sport Mod per IMCA rules, so how are those guys mentioned going to take anyone's money??? Just curious about that statement..

lol .. I was guessing with the Bloomer name. lol
Anyways ....
Big names travel all over the country side to chase big money in very expensive cars. Sportmods aint that. lol. I'm going to bed.

Obviously not a Dirt Late Model fan! LOL But again, how does paying throughout the field hurt this division??? The "Big name" LOL A mod guys can not race in the Sport mods legally...We were paid down through the field in the old "Hot Stocks" 18 years ago...I just think that is an insult if they bring the cars they will not get paid throughout field...So you're thinking they are more of a hobby class than the Hobbys and American stocks @ Bako??

Wait, I never said not to pay down the line ... I happen to think the paying down the line is the key to full fields .. and paying the top ten in track points something amazing will keep the regular attendance up all year. But, the "to win" nonsense needs to be hushed up. To win only matters to one car on the track. But, in answer to your question about paying down the line, I do think the purse should slide back to at least the point where a guy that finished at the 50% mark breaks even (5th out of 10, 10 out of 20, 20 out of 40, ect.) I think that is a pretty good guage.
Streeters ran for trophies, had one legers, 350cfm 2bbl, stock manifolds only, any DOT 8" .... we had B mains and C mains ... running for nothing but tin and grandstand donations ... 1989. The demand for a purse came after spending went insane ... so the purse eased up a bit ... and the cars became track specific .. and here we are.
No, I do not think the Sportmod class is below, or above, any other local level racing class. It's just different, in my opinion. I think a guy putting a competitive 4banger on the track each week has just as much to do with racing as a guy putting a full tilit A-mod on the track. Just different ... and less expense. If a track has 40 4bangers and 8 A-mods, who do you think should make a bigger part of the purse? I'm sure we agree.
So, have you ordered your IMCA license yet?

Nope! LOL We run a Super Dirt Late Model...We just used to run Super Streets from about 1992-2006 and still have tons of friends in the SS and Mods..I really do think that Sport Mods will be better off in the long run with being full IMCA compliant...A mods are long gone...LOL

BAP, while agree with most of what you are saying, I think there is another factor involved with car count or lack of. I think one issue is the amount of classes. when a track has 7-8 classes you might get 80 cars in the pits but no more then 10 in any one class. When I was racing in the street stock in Antioch in the mid 80s, my first night was a "C" main, but we only had 2 classes I think. In cali we have 4-bangers, mini stocks, mini trucks, hobby stocks, american stocks, enduro, streeters (super stocks), A-mods, B mods, limited LMs, LMs, Micro sprint, mini sprint, midgets, midget lites, spec sprints, 360 winged, 410 winged, 410 non-winged and that is just for dirt! I think the sport mods are the wave of the future. But in order to improve car count, you have to control costs. I think IMCA is trying to do that.

Perry25 had made an excellent point...you really do have too many choices....and then the rules within those divisions can vary greatly from track to track. You basically have ended up with 50+ types of dirt race cars just within California.
As i post this, I look at an ad on the right for Bakersfield Speedway congratulating it's 2011 Champions....7 different divisions are listed....and that's not including at least 5 other "special" divisions that are scheduled to race in 2012. How can you expect to get a full field of cars when you have so many divisions? 12 different types of dirt race cars? Is that what this has come to?
Is IMCA the answer? Even they have too many divisions...but the problem is much greater. Bottom line is that it has come to a point where we have created almost enough divisions where everybody can be a winner....and that's not appealing to fans.
I'd dare a track to declare 3 divisions and run them every week. Entry level, mid level and top level, doesn't really matter what...but no more than 3....I'd guess that within a couple of years, you would have huge fields in each of the 3.

what i put in bold is what kenny shepard was going to do with his 10 race idea the sport mod were going to be the underdog to the headliner of the sprint, LM, dwarfs or what ever would show up as a traveling show. i believe he was thinking sport mod 4 bangers and hobby stocks. kenny told me he believes A mods should be a traveling show, which in North Carolina they dont have sport mods only A mods and they are a traveling series.
