ROUND #1 OF 2012 1-800LOANMART STREET STOCK SERIES THIS SATURDAY AT PERRIS!
(Perris, CA, April 10, 2012) When the Oil Twins Amsoil Street Stocks take to the track this Saturday, April 14th at Perris Auto Speedway, they will be contesting round #1 of the 1-800LoanMart 2012 Street Stock Challenge and they could well be racing for the richest purse for the division in track's 17-year history. If 24 cars sign in at the pit gate, the winner will take home a whopping $1,750.00. In addition to the Street Stocks, the Super Stocks, Modifieds, Sport Mods and the Pick-A-Part American Factory Stocks will also be in action. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race is slated for 5:30.
The 1-800LoanMart Series will consist of three additional races after this week's show. June 23rd, and September 1st & 22nd. Each of those races will offer extra purse money as well and there is a point fund that will pay the top three drivers $2,500.00, $1,500.00 and $1,000.00 at the end of the series.
The first Oil Twins Amsoil Street Stock race of the year saw 27 entries and paid winner Shawn Estes of Riverside $1,000.00.
"Even the $1,000.00 is a huge purse by Street Stock standards, but $1,750.00 is almost unheard of for a regular season race," promoter Din Kazarian said. "With the extra money being offered this year by 1-800LoanMart we expect to see large car counts at all of the Oil Twins Amsoil Street Stock races in 2012. Already, lots of new drivers are coming out to race, many old drivers are building cars to get back into it and we expect to see cars from other tracks show up as well. It would not shock me to see 40 cars show up on Saturday. It is going to be a great night of racing."
With the added money this year, the racing should be fierce. "It was intense racing on the first night for the Street Stocks," Kazarian said with a smile. "We expect more of the same on Saturday and with that kind of money up for grabs, who knows what will happen if the second place car is close to the leader on the last lap."
Like the Street Stocks, Kazarian also expects the other classes to grow in 2012. "If the Super Stocks, Modifieds and Sport Mods get 24 cars signed in, they will be racing for $1,000.00 to win. We certainly think and hope we will be paying that purse in those classes this year as car counts are climbing. The Modifieds are close now and could get that count on Saturday."
In addition to Estes, the season opening winners on March 3rd were multi-time PAS Modified king Alan Updyke of Tustin, Eric Evans of National City in the Super Stocks, past Modified and Street Stock champ Tom "Slick" Smith of Lakewood in the Sport Mods and Nuevo's Mike Burks in the Pick-A-Part American Factory Stocks. All are expected to be back on Saturday.
New this year is the overall PASSCAR champion award at the end of the season. Any night a division draws 10 cars or more in 2012, the points the drivers accumulate on those nights will go towards the overall championship. After one race, Estes and Updyke are tied for the top spot with 65 points each. Points for the overall PASSCAR champion and all of the divisions are listed below.
Unfortunately, due to low car count and limited feedback from the competitors, the Super 4 Banger class has been canceled for the rest of the year.
Tickets for Saturday are $12.00 for adults. Active military members with proper id, teens age 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 get in for just $5.00. Children 5 and under get in for free.
