MRP Gold Fever Taxi Open

The annual show of all stock cars  dedicated to Billy Knoop, who was recently lost in a motorcycle accident, had a very quick smooth track and good counts in all 3 classes.
Hobbies had about 20 and Les Friend, who ran all 3 classes with the same car car, had his best run of the evening winning that one.
Super Stocks had 27, with visitors from Petaluma, Placerville and the Bay area. Fittingly, Jeff Olchowka, driving the late Knoop's car, won that one over Mitch Machado, Ray Trimble, Ryan McDaniel, Brent Lawrence, Corey Hall and Steve Studebaker, all on the lead lap. Les Friend was 10th, down 3 laps. Petaluma driver Studebaker advanced by winning the semi.  Brent broke the left rear shock bottom eye off on the 1st lap and ran the rest of the main with the shot banging around and had his hands full but still had a fine run considering. He went from 8th to 2nd in his heat so we can't complain about our night.
Limited Late Models had about 25 and Matt Micheli pretty much smoked the field in  winning over Jeff Olchowka in a different car from the SS,Tom Tilford, Ryan McDaniel in another different car from the SS he drove earlier, James Edens,Jerry Bartlett and Les Friend.  Corey Hall in his SS ran 3rd until he spun on his own in turn 1 on the last lap, dropping him to 9th.
Overall, it was a good show but it was a little puzzling how many suspension failures there were in all 3 classes running on a glass smooth track.

Theres been alot of that all season. with the more open rear rules at MRP, the racers have ,I think, out trickeyed themselves. I cant count the number of driveshafts I have picked up off the track this season. The combo of too many adjustable links and a track with bite have lead to alot of carnage. Traditional cars like Mitch Machado and craig nieman win consistantly year after year race after race without suspension drama.
Thank you and all the others who travelled to our joint to help keep fendered racing alive. ,,paul
