The 602 only has 80psi spring spring preasure on the seat and 195psi over the nose and its a hyd flat tappet. No need for expensive break in oil with those numbers. I would use a good diesel oil like Delo or Shell Rotello. After that use what it says in the crate manual 15w50 mobil 1.

Lucas makes a break in additive with zinc. Can mix it with your regular oil. Never raced with it. I used it with some 30 wt. Do my normal break in then change it.

after 2007 the new formulation for deisel oils don't have the zinc and phosphorus in them that they used to when people used them for break in... DO NOT use them now... it will not do what it used to

Rotella T
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Ya'll,
The latest rumors about Rotella had me thinking we were down to using high dollar racing oil. Found a Rotella web site, emailed a question, took a nap, got a reply. Sometimes its your day. Here is question and reply;
I have heard that Rotella T CI-4 is being phased out, replaced by CJ-4. Is the ZDDP content being reduced? If so, by what percentage, or what will the PPM of ZDDP be with the new oil if its not a trade secret? The hotrod guys are dying to know, we've all been using Rotella due to flat tappet camshaft break in problems using the new oils without the ZDDP additives.
Here is his reply:
We still sell Rotella T 15w-40 CI-4 in 55 gallon drums, but not in smaller packages. It has approximately 1400 ppm zinc. You can buy this from a shell lubricants distributor.
Since Oct. 15,2006 all small packaging has been Rotella T with triple protection 15w-40 CJ-4 and it has approximately 1200 ppm zinc. This is 50% more zinc than current passenger car motor oils which contain approximately 800 ppm zinc. Passenger car motor oils had approximately 1200 ppm zinc prior to 2001. In 2001 the zinc was reduced to 1000 ppm and in 2005 reduced again to the current 800 ppm.
Thus, the new Rotella T with triple protection 15w-40 CJ-4 has the same zinc content that passenger car motor oils had in 2000 before the current problems with flat tappets began.
However, zinc compounds are not the only additives that can reduce wear. We were able to reduce wear approximately 50% with the new Rotella T with triple protection 15w-40 CJ-4 formulation.
This is from a staff engineer in Houston, Texas.
With the spring preasured that the 602 crate has I still think this is just fine.

The funny part to me is that a lot of guys try to use something that will do the job vs something that is made for the job. couple bucks more its gonna be to get a non detergent break in oil that is designed to help the rings and everything seat right (not like the deisel oils as they are a detergent oil) is worth it to me

what is the problem with detergent oil? I have recently switch to rotella (as a reg oil, not a break in oil) because of the higher zddp levels. much easier and cheaper than having to buy a racing oil or an addative.

LUCAS OIL has a break in oil that's really good. I dump a full bottle in on break in and then dump a small bottle in with every oil change. It's 3.99 at Autozone. My cam looked like new after a couple seasons. Cheap insurance.

I know people will use higher end Gibs stuff but I've never had any issue with Valvoline racing 20/50

1.2 rockers, or removing the inner valve springs during break in, and use regular highway oil.
Or leave the good parts in, and use Gibbs BR, only about $5/qt
