Smooth fast track last night at Chico and a lot of stock car classes and only one sprint class for a change. Car counts were decent for the weekend following the holiday. Here you go.
SS had 11 cars with Mitch Machado visiting and winning the 1st heat and Kevin Lesch the 2nd. Mitch drew a 4 for the main invert putting the fastest cars in the 4th row. Lots of rubbing with everyone trying to get to the front and very few guys finished without torn up cars. Mitch won followed by Jake Vantol, Kevin Ward and Shawn Smith. Mike Slightom celebrated(?) his 60th birthday by exploding a right rear and trying to wop me with a piece of it in the pit stands. We were off with the younger Lawrence off on the annual Rubicon adventure with his Jeep. Considering all the damage to the cars and ticked off teams I can't say I was sorry for just spectating. We'll be back next Friday. Hobbies only had 5 with Brian Compton taking the trophy after a pretty good race with Mike Slightom, Jr. Limited Late Models had 11 with Jake Vantol and Phil Marino debuting new cars. Jake had engine problems early and didn't come out for the main. Phil was sorting out his new car and put on one of the scarier exhibitions of the night with a evil handling ride and, fortunately, escaped in one piece. Ryan McDaniel won after a pretty good race early with Matt Micheli, who broke. Ken Micheli finished 2nd with the 3rd Micheli car with Danny Malfatti guesting next. Misty Castleberry again dominated the 7 Mini Stocks on hand. Modifieds had 11 with Mark Abouzied, Chico Volkswagon owner and the night's sponsor, leading for a long time until Duane Cleveland passed him for the win. Richard Papenhausen finished in 3rd after early engine woes had him make a quick trip to his shop for an engine swap. Good race. The only sprint car class of the night, the 15 410s had Sean Becker win over Andy Forsberg.
