DAMION GARDNER BRINGING WORLD’S FASTEST SPRINT CAR TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY

(Perris, CA, August 14, 2014)  The “World’s Fastest Sprint Car Driver,” Damion Gardner, will be bringing the “World’s Fastest Sprint Car,” to put on display for the fans at the “California Racer’s Hall of Fame Night” featuring the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, PAS Senior Sprints, PAS Young Gun Sprints and the California Lightning Sprint Cars at Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday, August 16th .  Spectator gates will open at 5:00 pm and the first race will be at 7:00.

The car, known as the “Green Demon,” which went 194.27 during 2013 Speed Week on the Bonneville Salt Flats, was slated to try to break the 200-MPH barrier this week, but the 2014 edition of Speed Week was canceled by rain.

“It will give the fans something else to look at while they are the races,” the two-time USAC/CRA champion said by phone from his Concord home on Wednesday night.  “I just wanted to bring it down so everybody could see it and see what it is all about.  They see pictures, but this way they can see it in person.  It is a cool car that has a lot of old school body work hammered out of aluminum that was done by the Victory Race Car guys.  Whatever we can do to get fans out to the races helps.”

The way the fans will see the car is exactly the way it was set up to run this week at Bonneville before rain intervened.

“It hasn’t even been out of the trailer,“ Gardner laughed.  “How the fans see the car sitting there on Saturday is virtually how it was going to make the first run at Bonneville.”

Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian is very appreciative that Gardner has not only gone out of his way to get the car to the track this week, but for all of his interactions and his willingness to please the fans.

“We really appreciate and thank Damion for doing this,” Kazarian said.  “He knows most local fans will never have a chance to see this famous car close up so he has taken it upon himself to see that they do.  He is doing it for the fans.  He is a very fan conscious driver and is always willing to do what it takes on the track or before or after the races off the track to make sure they have a good time.”

While the car will be silent at The PAS, Gardner is looking forward to another shot at going fast in it in early September.

“We are working on taking it back there (to Bonneville) in September,” Gardner said.  “I have races at Watsonsville and Santa Maria that weekend (first weekend in September).  I will do another kamikaze run to get to Bonneville and run the car on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.  That is only three weeks away though so the salt is going to have to do a lot of drying out.  We are not going to go if it is risky at all and waste a trip again.  Hopefully it will dry out and we will be able to get there.”

Camping for all events at The PAS is available for $25.00 per night.  The campground will open at noon on Friday.  Tailgating in the spectator parking lot will begin at 1:00 PM for all PAS events as well.
