Brody Roa takes the Committee money

VENTURA, CA (July 11) - Saturday night July 11, was another night of exciting short track racing action at Ventura Raceway. Seven adult classes, kept the fans in attendance on the edge of their seats from the opening heats to the final main event. Good car counts in sprints, dwarf cars, Hobby Stocks and IMCA Modifieds led the way. Competition was very close and hard fought from top to bottom in each event staged. The night featured special first place purse amounts in Sprints, Pro Dwarf and Hobby Stocks.

In VRA Sprints, Brody Roa took the win in the Committee Main Event over 15 other VRA Sprint Car competitors. He took home the winner's $1,500 check. He defeated a hard charging Troy Rutherford, Greg Taylor, Rick Hendricks, Kyle Smith and Luis Espinosa. Their three heat race wins went to Troy Rutherford, Greg Taylor and Luis Espinosa. After 10 races in 2015, Kyle Smith leads Guy Woodward by 35 points in their championship race..

VRA Dwarf Cars returned to action Saturday with Curt Cook taking the win in seniors sprints over Bill Vanpraag, Michael Smith, Ken Lippert and Mike Lewis. Their heat race went to Mike Neal. In Pro action it was another night for the Johnny Conley. Once again he dominated the 18 car field to take another win and increase his season point lead. Following him to the line were Ray Estrada, Tim Conley, Mike Neal and April Banuelos. A large field of 27 Pro drivers necessitated four heat races won by Tim Conley, Mike Neal, Tommy Velasquez and Curt Cook. Ricky Lewis took their Semi Main event.

IMCA Modified action saw another very good race by a strong field of 13 modifieds. Past track Champion Robbie Witwer took his second Ventura 20 lap feature win in 2015. Finishing second through fifth were Austin Rodarte, Andrew Phipps, Dave Phipps and Aaron Rodarte. Jack Parker and Robbie Witwer also took their heat races. After 10 races in 2015 Andrew Phipps leads Dave Phipps by 17 points.

VRA's Hobby Stock Class continued their 2015 season with six cars in attendance. Jesse James Verdun took the 20 lap main event win for his third win in the last four races. Following Verdun to the line were, Matt Dockstader, Mira Cook, David Heurung and. Their two heat races went to Chris Whitford and Tom Stephens Sr. After 9 races, David Heurung leads Tom Stephens Sr. by 130 points in the championship race.

Eleven NMRA TQ Midgets were on hand for Saturday night's event. The main event was a fast and furious event. When all was said and done it was two time 2015 winner Chuck West taking the win over Bruce Hiroshima, West Evans, Chris Thomas and Scott Niven.

VRA go carts had a new winner with first time racer Shane Wiggins taking the win. He held off Joe Gibb, Kenny Byers Jr., Tyler Wilson and Justin Raper to take the 20 lap feature win. Justin Raper took the one heat race. Kenny Byers Jr., leads the point race by 20 over Justin Raper after 5 races.

Racing will continue next Saturday June 18, with the second ARP Battle at the Beach
Rce that features VRA Sprints racing for a $1,500 winners check. Also racing that night will be VRA Senior Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, VRA Sport Compacts, USAC Focus Midgets, NMRA TQ Midgets and our kid's classes.
