AMSOIL PASSCAR STOCK CARS AND IMCA MODIFIEDS AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY SATURDAY

PERRIS, CA (September 10) - Facing their fastest turnaround of the 2015 season, the Amsoil PASSCAR Stock Car Series and the IMCA Modifieds return to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, September 12th.  Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with the first race at 7:00.

Normally the PASSCAR/IMCA shows on the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval are spaced out with a minimum of four weeks in between.  However, for the first time in 2015, this week’s race is only two weeks after the last race on August 29th.  Due to the July rainout, the same scenario will be played out when the October 24th and November 7th dates are only spaced out by two weeks ago.

With only this Saturday and the October 24th race left for drivers to qualify in the Super Stock and American Factory Stock classes for the PASSCAR Pursuit Championship finale, competition should be tough on Saturday night.  Drivers can qualify for the championship by winning one of the first seven main events (eight for Street Stocks who have an extra race at the Southern California Fair in October) during the season.  If seven different drivers do not win main events, the next spots are filled by drivers with the most points who have not missed more than one race.  It looks like a majority of the drivers who will be eligible for the championship will make it on points as all three classes have victors with multiple wins.

Thus far drivers who have qualified with victories this year are:

Street Stocks: Luke Dodd (Riverside), Blaine Whitson (Temecula)

Super Stocks: Dennis Wooldridge (Riverside), Mike Lerwell (El Cajon)

American Factory Stocks: Todd Fassler (El Cajon), David Murray (Yucaipa), Kris Carnish (Menifee)

The highest placed main event finisher of the eligible drivers in each division at the November 7th race will be crowned division champion.  Last year was the first season of the PASSCAR Pursuit championship and the winners were Whitson in the Super Stocks, Eddie Gurwell of Riverside in the Street Stocks and Hesperia’s Fred Kottman in the American Factory Stocks.   If the Pursuit Championship was held today, Whitson and Gurwell would have to get in on points to defend their crowns.  Kottman has not raced this year and is ineligible.

Defending PASSCAR Street Stock champion Eddie Gurwell has yet to automatically qualify for this year’s Pursuit Championship on November 7.  He will take another shot at it this Saturday night.  Please give photo credit to Doug Allen.

Two weeks ago Whitson won his third Street Stock main of the season when Luke Dodd failed the post-race technical inspection.  Lerwell won his second straight Super Stock main and Menifee’s Kris Carnish won the first American Factory Stock main event of this career.  Lomita’s Mike Kirby won The PAS IMCA Modified main for the second time in 2015.

All cars will contest heat races and main events on Saturday.  If needed, B mains will also be a part of the program.
