Grass Valley & Formula One
09/18/15 at 10:27am

A little out of our circle track norm, but certainly worthy of mention, the first American driver in F1 since Scott Speed in '07 will be Grass Valley's  Alexander Rossi.
After several years of working up the ladder with different teams, including being a reserve and test driver last year for the Caterham team, the 23 year old will make his debut at Singapore this weekend with the Manor Marussia team. He is scheduled to run 5 of the last 7 races this year.  The other 2 conflict with his GP 2 schedule where he is contention for the championship.  He is the only American currently to hold the Super license for F1.
Grass Valley also has other notables in sprinter Brad Sweet in World of Outlaws, his sister's boyfriend Kyle Larson in Cup and Matt Dibenedetto also in Cup.  Not bad for this little foothills town.  Must be the water.

Rossi did alright last night/this morning in his debut.  Insomnia had me up late so figured I might as well watch the race which started at 4:30 a.m. our time.  Don't even know what day it was in Singapore.
He hit a wall and knocked the rf suspension off in one of the qualifying sessions and started 20th (last) in the race.  Minded his own business and finished 14th, one spot ahead of his team mate. Didn't earn any championship points as Formula One only awards points to the top 10 but didn't get in the way of the top guys either.
Sebastien Vettel won his 4th race at Singapore and 3rd of this season for Ferrari.  !52+ mph average for the 2 hour race on the pretty tricky 3+ mile track.
Some how some idiot got through all the fencing and barricades surrounding the track and was walking on the side of the track during the late stage of the race.  Obvious yellow.  If he'd got hit it would have been much more than carbon fiber pieces flying. It's amazing how many morons there are out there. Shocked : Lips Sealed
