Kellen Chadwick Wins Wild West Modified Shootout Finale At Elma; Crowned 2016 Champion

by Ben Deatherage
ELMA, Washington (June 18) - The 2016 Wild West Modified Shootout would draw to a close on Saturday June 18th as they visited Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington.  The famed 3/8-mile clay oval would experience some cool temperatures through the day but the racing on the track would be some hot action.  Forty-cars from Oregon, Washington, California, Montana, North Dakota, and Colorado would make the journey as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Nipomo, Californiaís Danny Lauer would take the lead from Collen Winebarger, of Corbett, Oregon, on lap two.  From there he would be the car to beat as he was in search of his first career Wild West Modified Shootout victory.  Unfortunately, Lauer would break late in the race on lap twenty-five.

The driver that everyone had been chasing all week long would inherit the top spot, Kellen Chadwick.  The Oakley, California native would blaze the trail the remainder of the distance and survive to pull off an incredible fourth win the tour in six main event starts.  Also once the checkered flag was flung he would be crowned the 2016 Wild West Modified Shootout champion.

Cosmopolis chauffeur Tom Sweatman was a respectable second over John Campos, of Keizer, Oregon and from one of the B Mains, in third.  The rest of the top five was made up of Warren, Oregonís Jeremy Martin in fourth and fifth place finishing Graham Cook out of Parksville, British Columbia.

Two B Mains were ran with Brad Martin, also of Warren, Oregon, and John Campos the winners.  The driver that bested the field in the Last Chance Qualifier was Jeremy Shank from Salem, Oregon.

With the conclusion of this yearís Wild West Modified Shootout we would like to thank all of the tracks and their wonderful staffs for accommodating us and also to the awesome race teams for making the long trip to join us.  We will be putting together a recap story featuring some of the final statistics and breakdown of the final points standings.
