Pat Pettit Shootout A Mod Preview: Is it Troy Foulger’s to lose?
9-26-17

As we get closer to Friday and Saturday, the main focus for West Coast racing is the 7th annual Pat Pettit Shootout. The show has become a premium event for Modified racing in California, drawing the best of the best throughout the state. With some of the biggest names in the state, such as Ryan McDaniel, Bobby Hogge IV, and Alex Stanford making up the previous winner’s list, it just testifies to the prestigiousness of the event. I mean just look at the names that have ran this in the past few years! Out of state stars like Jeff Taylor, Robert Miller, Justin O’Brien, Tom Berry Jr and more. Then there’s California’s own, such as Bobby Hogge IV, Ryan and Randy McDaniel, Robby Sawyer, Troy Foulger, Ethan Dotson, Paul Stone, the list goes on and on. Just about every year prior to this, Salinas’ Bobby Hogge IV has been the perennial favorite. This year is different.

No one comes into this year’s event with anywhere near as much momentum as Martinez’s “Tricky” Troy Foulger. Since the debut of the team’s new GRT midseason, Foulger has been on an absolute tear across the West Coast, winning almost every race they’ve entered, including multiple All Star Modified Tour races, the 20th annual Mike Cecil Memorial at Watsonville, The 1st ever R Charles Snyder Salute $5,000 to win race in Medford, Oregon, and most recently the Matt Van Hoecke Memorial race at Merced. The team seems almost unstoppable, and with a big win already at Watsonville this season, is there any way you can pick against Foulger?

If you were to go with someone else, you still have plenty of good choices. Drivers like Nevada’s Robert Miller, Robby Sawyer, Ryan McDaniel, Joe Antonetti, Ryan Porter, Bobby Hogge IV, Alex Stanford, along with a strong local contingent which includes Austin and Cody Burke, Jim Pettit, the Wilson brothers and others, the talent pool is big for this weekend’s race. But even with the amount of talent that will be there this weekend, Foulger’s tidal wave of momentum makes him the odds on favorite this year.

The Pat Pettit Shootout will be held this Friday and Saturday, September 29th and 30th, at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, California. The speedway’s address is  2601 E Lake Ave Watsonville,Ca.
